What are the responsibilities and job description for the Green Side Superintendent position at Weyerhaeuser?
Our Holden, LA lumber mill is currently recruiting for a Green Side Superintendent. The position is a full-time, exempt role that reports to the Unit Manager. The Green Side Superintendent is a key member of the Holden leadership team.
The position is responsible for process management in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and continuous improvement in green lumber manufacturing from the log deck to the stacker, including scale house, filing and maintenance. Additionally, the Green Side Superintendent leads the team by driving people development processes, proactively resolving employee issues in a non-union environment, building team-work, and ensuring adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
It is an exciting time at our Holden Mill. We are currently building a new, state-of-the-art mill with industry leading technology. We will start transitioning to our new mill in 2022. (sawmill & CDK-B are scheduled for Sept/Oct 2022 startup, with the new planer mill scheduled for Q4 2023)
Our mill produces high-quality Southern Yellow Pine lumber used for residential construction throughout the Southern and Eastern USA. We have a reputation for manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Functions
- Role model safety standards and on-the-job behavior by living the Weyerhaeuser core principles of integrity, fairness, creating a positive work environment, and ensuring open communication among associates
- Develop associates' skill and manage performance with the highest priority placed on safe behaviors and decisions
- Actively lead and participate in the plant safety program
- Optimizing functional areas including production, scheduling and asset utilization
- Control and improve productivity and reduce/manage costs
- Manage the daily activities of the facility to meet unit goals (metric and financial)
- Lead the planning of production activities and budgets and coordinate maintenance activities with the maintenance team
- Fully utilize performance management tools for leadership growth and development
- Participate in the development of capital and project plans and activities, as well as annual plan (budget)
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Business, Industrial Engineering, or other related degree or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated experience in safely leading a manufacturing process, preventative maintenance, productivity, and cost process improvements
- Preferred five-years’ experience in lumber or wood products manufacturing
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience and proven ability to lead teams in a non-union environment and promote a culture of trust and collaboration
- Excellent interpersonal skills - conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving. Ability to function as an effective team member
- Strong mechanical and technical knowledge. Demonstrated track record of success in a complex and fast paced manufacturing environment
- Desire to develop towards higher levels of responsibility within Weyerhaeuser
- Willingness to support a 24/7 operating environment, which may include weekend and holiday support as conditions require
