What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head SawFiler position at Weyerhaeuser?
Weyerhaeuser Company in Magnolia, MS is currently seeking a Head Saw Filer to safely lead and coordinate the saw filing services provided by our saw filing team. Candidates selected for this position will be evaluated for their qualification level and paid accordingly.
This position is responsible for leading and coordinating the saw filing activities for our lumber manufacturing facility. The successful candidate must have expertise in safely filing and maintaining band saws and circle saws, machine alignment, maintaining saw filing equipment, and preventive maintenance procedures including the ability to inspect equipment for signs of wear/damage and recognize unsafe conditions.

- Experience in safe work practices related to saw filing.
- Able to work in extreme temperatures and dusty/noisy conditions while wearing the proper safety equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership in mill safety processes
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Mechanical background and aptitude.
- Experience in the saw filing trade – knives/circle saws/band saws/guides.
- Knowledge to use precise measuring equipment, i.e., micrometers and dial indicators, etc.
- Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills
- Have basic understanding of planned / preventive maintenance process.
- Understand internal quality control and machine alignment procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot lumber for quality and size control.
- Ability to effectively team with others while implementing process changes in a rapid-pace work environment.
- Produce quality work product and capacity to adapt to and learn new technology.
- Able to work any shift, weekends, overtime, holidays as needed
- Successful completion of assessment process, background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen and physical
- Able to perform all essential job functions including saw/knife/guide changes, lifting 2-20 pounds regularly, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, climbing steps/ladders, working from heights and in tight spaces within close proximity of sharp objects, and standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours.
