The Warden is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Metropolitan Detention Center, ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of staff, detainees, inmates, and the public. Essential Duties
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of and experience in the operations, services and activities of a comprehensive corrections and detention program.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the criminal justice system, law enforcement, modern booking procedures, corrections and detention theory and practice.
- Knowledge of correctional institution security and inmate security practices, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
- Knowledge of program development and administration including budget preparation and management.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations.
- Ability to identify hazardous and stressful situations in a rational, mature, and confident manner and to act effectively.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise administrative reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain both positive and effective relationships with staff, subordinates, County officials, the union, and the general public.
- Most duties are performed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
- Employee will be on call in emergency situations.
- Work hazards include high stress levels and operation of a motor vehicle.
- The offer of this county position requires compliance with the following:
- Must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background check.
- Must comply with safety guidelines of the county.
- Perform other related duties or as required or assigned.
- Must complete required FEMA training as assigned to the position.
- Complete any additional training as required.
- Bachelors degree in criminal justice, social science, business administration, business management or related field plus (6) years of increasingly responsible work experience in the correction or law enforcement field. This includes (2) years in a Captains or equivalent capacity at a corrections or law enforcement facility OR any related combination of education from an accredited university or college OR (10) years experience including (2) years at a Captains or equivalent capacity. Related education and experience may substitute for the required education and experience and may be interchangeable on a year-to-year basis.
- Candidate must have leadership experience in a prison or detention facility with 1,500 or more beds
- Employee must possess a valid New Mexico drivers license by time of employment and must maintain a valid drivers license while employed at this position.
Salary : $83,100 - $105,000
