What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legislative Analyst position at Whatcom County?
Whatcom County Council is seeking a professional with strong analytic skills and experience in the public policy arena to assist with budget, planning, and policy analysis. This position will research, develop and analyze policy direction related to a variety of topics considered by the Council, such as: preservation of resource lands, criminal justice and public safety, behavioral health, water quality and quantity, planning and development, zoning, contracts and budgeting, and public works operations.
The individual selected for this position will work cooperatively and collaboratively with all County Council members, staff, members of the public, and representatives of a variety of other entities. Diplomacy, tact, respect, professionalism and integrity are critical qualities we seek, in addition to technical expertise.

Supervisor: Clerk of the Council
Hours of Work: 8 AM - 4:30 PM, and must be available to attend evening Council meetingsSalary Range:
- Unrepresented- Range 9
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business administration, economics, urban planning, or a related field, AND a minimum of five years of progressively responsible related professional experience, preferably in public policy related work in local government.
Knowledge of Whatcom County government mandates and functions and familiarity with regional and local policy issues and challenges preferred.
At its sole discretion, Whatcom County may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications, and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.
