WHEDA is seeking a Intern to join our Community Economic Development Team in our Milwaukee facility.
The Intern will assist the Emerging Business Program (EBP) with program research, procedures, and guidelines. The EBP needs to revisit program guidelines and polices based on the low employment rate and hiring opportunities as well as other market changes (i.e., available Emerging business contractors, increase in material cost and availability.
SALARY: Hiring Range for this position is $17.50/hr. Offered Salary will be based on qualifications. WHEDA provides a competitive salary and WHEDA employees participate in the State of Wisconsin benefit package which includes retirement, health insurance and deferred compensation programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist the Strategic Market & Tribal Liaison with community research, strategic initiative planning and execution and general coordination of activities related to serving BIPOC markets. The intern would also assist in creating a system to track the strategies and outcomes for Strategic Market efforts.
- Map community demographics, community assets, and partners in strategic markets throughout the state.
- Research of best practices and innovative models in housing and economic development to outreach and serve under-served markets.
- Co-design, along with Strategic Market & Tribal Liaison, a preliminary strategic plan for CED team outreach to strategic markets, with strong consideration of priorities and culture competency.
- Assist with coordination of strategic initiatives such as: WHEDA Homeownership Initiative and Housing Counseling Resource Program; including meeting notes, meeting coordination, partner outreach, reporting, etc.
- Assist with ongoing Tribal Liaison activities including outreach to tribal nation partners, coordination of meetings, research, community asset mapping, developing a contact repository.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate College Student
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Requesting a student with a strong understanding of cultural competency, diversity, equity & inclusion principles, and a passion for social justice at a systems level to support communities to thrive. Experience volunteering or working at community-based organizations or non-profits such as community centers, youth programs, educational programs strongly preferred. Language skills other than English are desirable.
