This role in summary
Whirlpool is looking for qualified candidates for the role of Representative, Model Maker (Apprentice) in the Model Shop Team within the Cross Category Technology organization. This position is located at the Cleveland Tennessee Tech Center. This is a four year program with on the job training and college level classes paid through Whirlpool. It’s coordinated with the individual and state and provides the apprentice with a prototype model maker card once completed. Model shop apprenticeship program is accredited by the state of Tennessee. Pay increases every 1000 hours of on the job training: based on acceptable completion of college
classes and evaluations from mentors. Future assistance for associates level degree. The candidate will be required to go to school and work full time.
Your responsibilities will include
- Work from drawings or CAD data to produce prototype components
- Operate a wide range of equipment common to a model shop environment
- Perform tasks common to maintaining equipment and inventory
- Work in all areas of the shop including: Welding, CNC, Sheet metal, additive manufacturing, painting, laser, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), and manual machining for metal and plastic
- Will complete 8000 hours of on the job training
- Complete the required college level classes in the skilled trades.
- Obtain a base level understanding of all the areas within the shop.
- Deliver prototype parts on time.
- Show acceptable progress in a given area as seen through evaluations provided by the mentor.
Minimum requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
Preferred skills and experiences
- Experience with Manual skills in metal and/or plastic processing
- Experience using technical drawing and documentation
- Design simple tools for realization of component needed.
- ProEngineer or CAD software experience is a plus.
- Experience with Additive manufacturing/ metal fabrication/ plastic fabrication or model assembly is a plus
