What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assurance Supervisor position at Whittlesey?
Supervisors can perform most engagements with little supervision. The Supervisor is specifically able to run multiple smaller engagements simultaneously. They both direct and review the work of an Associate Accountant and are very capable of making decisions on most accounting, tax and auditing matters. They are supervised in most cases by a manager and/ or partner on an engagement. Generally, these positions require five or more years of audit experience.

- Demonstrates the ability to effectively gather data from the client, Audit Department, and third party sources.
- Prepares meaningful and well written recommendations for inclusion in client correspondence.
- Demonstrates effective and appropriate delegation of work to staff.
- Ensures engagement schedule will meet everyone's needs and expectations.
- Ensures communication between the audit team and client occurs.
- Ability to managed multiple engagements at once, all at various stages of completion; monitor deadlines
- Ability to use analytical skills to address revenue recognition risks.
- Monitor budget throughout engagements
- Effectively applies audit and accounting knowledge to more complex financial statements.
- Understands the Firm's quality control document and reviews workpapers to ensure compliance.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify complex issues and apply accounting principles and auditing procedures.
- Has begun to master information technology tools in assigned areas.
- Work effectively with staff in analyzing business transactions.
- Exhibits an understanding of the client's business objectives and performs research with a view for alternatives to satisfy.
- Challenges the audit approach from year to year.
- Ability to sell additional services if needed.
- Quality is continuously demonstrated in all aspects of work.
- Provides staff with honest, objective and constructive feedback in a timely manner.
- Partner with the Director of Marketing, developing in the attributes required to be an effective and competent "Ambassador of the Firm".
- Participates with department partner(s) and manager(s) in client strategic planning including analysis, plan development, recommendation and presentation.
- Displays substantial progress towards CPA certification. Should have either exam completed or required educational credit.
- Exhibits an understanding of computer software used in financial statement preparation process and planning.
- Performs complete and efficient reviews of financial statements while providing guidance and supervision to other staff.
- Participates in Firm orientation and training events.
- Actively participates in engagement planning (i.e. budgeting, risk assessment, and strategic development). Is sometimes expected to lead discussions.
- Engagement reviews, midyear reviews and annual reviews are completed in a timely manner.
- Has a strong desire to mentor
- Identifies and resolves issues outside of the scope of the assignment.
- Stays current on accounting pronouncements and tax law matters.
- Adheres to Firm policies and to rules of the AICPA.
