Description

   

Job Summary:

Ensure efficient, safe and sanitary store operations by consistently maintaining physical plant, equipment and premises in compliance with all Whole Foods Co-op/WFC, government and related regulatory and insurance agency policies and inspection requirements.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Storewide

  • Abide by all WFC policies and procedures. 
  • Engage in creating and maintaining a positive, ethical, and productive workplace that contributes to achieving progress on WFC’s ENDS. 
  • Consistently and positively promote ownership and owner benefits. 
  • Follow and ensure compliance with all safety practices and policies. 
  • Ensure relevant compliance with all regulatory guidance including but not limited to Minnesota Department of Agriculture and NOP Organic Standards 

 

Customer Service

Achieve or exceed expectations for internal and external service and provide a welcoming environment for all in accordance with WFC’s customer service standards. This includes but is not limited to: 

  • Anticipating customer needs. 
  • Promptly responding to requests for service and assistance.  
  • Demonstrating an ability to deal with difficult or emotional customer situations in a considerate and professional manner. 
  • Be familiar with co-op policies and products and take initiative to help customers with questions. 

 

Operational

  • Achieve or exceed daily operational goals and perform tasks at a pace that is consistent with department standards. 
  • Provide prompt, friendly and courteous service while assisting internal and external customers  
  • Assist customers in finding product and/or information, promptly and courteously answer and accurately route phone calls, messages and customer requests in compliance with established practices. 
  • As directed move into backstock, rotate, stage, stock and/or merchandise products in accordance with shift criteria.  
  • Ensure cleanliness of department areas and equipment and communicate and document any equipment maintenance and/or safety concerns to department management.  
  • Ensure department accountability for maintaining performance standards and provide leadership to designated employees. 
  • Uphold all personnel and operational policies. 
  • Perform other tasks including, but not limited to, participate in special projects and resets as directed by Operations Manager. 

 

 

Job Specific                      

  • Perform regularly scheduled interior and exterior maintenance, sanitation and assigned projects to ensure cleanliness, safety and maintenance of physical plant and equipment in compliance with established practices.  
  • Monitor equipment and physical plant performance; Provide routine maintenance and respond appropriately and promptly to alerts of malfunction; document and resolve any equipment maintenance or safety concerns. 
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure timely disposal of waste including, but not limited to, garbage, food waste, recycling (general, cardboard, plastic bags, paper, delivery packaging materials), and grease.  
  • Monitor and report to Operations Manager on department compliance with department maintenance and safety issues.  
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and conduct and/or coordinate building, safety and operational inspections. 
  • Propose and administer budget for physical plant maintenance and equipment as well as for safety equipment; monitor and purchase store maintenance supplies, tools, project supplies, etc. 
  • Provide training to staff as delegated and assist with trouble-shooting support; communicate and document unresolved issues and/or concerns to Operations Manager. 
  • Coordinate major department cleaning projects with Operations Manager  

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in building maintenance, sanitation, construction or equivalent  
  • Knowledge of electrical fixtures/wiring, plumbing fixtures/devices, HVAC, refrigeration and/or small engines   
  • Demonstrated carpentry and painting skills  

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 18 years of age or older 
  • Valid Driver's License 
  • Basic computer literacy including effective keyboard skills, familiarity with using a web browser and email 
  • Ability to operate effectively within established systems and procedures 
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills 
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressures and meet department work objectives 
  • Personal integrity to handle confidential information 
  • Willingness to learn and perform all aspects of the position 
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing conditions

  • Outdoor weather conditions  
  • Wet and/or humid conditions  
  • Change in room temperatures  
  • Carts, pallets and hand-trucks moving in and out of storage/retail areas

  • Background music and in-store pages  
  • Food odors, grain and spice dust, food allergens  

 

Essential Physical Requirements              

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs. or more throughout shift 
  • Ability to stand for the entirety of shift 
  • Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, sit, balance and rotate body throughout shift 
  • Ability to complete repetitive lifting and moving objects up to 15 lbs. throughout shift 
  • Use of hands and feet to operate position-required machinery  
  • Ability to do repetitive office tasks including, but not limited to, reaching, bending, filing, using a computer keyboard, focusing and reading off a computer screen/LCD monitor and reading written materials for the entirety of shift 
  • Ability to safely use sharp cutting instruments
