JOB TITLE: Courier
DEPARTMENT: Logistics / Fleet
SHIFT: Mon - Fri, 230pm - 11pm, Alternating Weekends
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The courier makes pick-ups and deliveries for the organization. Delivery of a wide range of things, such as medical records, lab samples and specimens, test results, medicines, and medical images is required. Common duties may include delivering blood specimens from a doctors office to the lab or delivering supplies to a vendor.
Perform lab specimen pick-ups and deliveries to organization entities in a timely manner following the designated route while being mindful of expected arrival and delivery times. Position requires driver to drive a vehicle in all types of weather and at all times of the day. Will spend much of the time driving short and long distances as well as getting in and out of the vehicle many times throughout the work shift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a courier/driver preferred
- Must possess a valid drivers license which is not suspended or revoked
- Has no convictions of Impaired Driving (e.g. OVI or Reckless Operation)
- Proof of state minimum liability insurance coverage
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as exhibiting strong organizational skills and work ethic
- Demonstrates a professional demeanor when responding to patients/customers
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to sit for 8 hours.
- Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
METHODS OF EVALUATION: Documented evaluations occur at the end of full training and periodically thereafter.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is typically performed in an office environment.
- Sitting for up to 8 hours
- Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing).
- Work requires sitting, standing, and / or walking for periods of up to eight hours.
- Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogens, Bio-hazardous waste, Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, etc.
- OSHA risk factor: Category 1

- Responsible for specimen pickup and deliveries from physician offices, clinics, and other locations both internal and external.
- Sorts and delivers report, supplies and other items to various external and internal locations.
- Accurately, timely and safely deliver supplies, equipment to locations.
- Maintain vehicles in excellent operating/appearance condition.
- Provides timely pickup and delivery of all laboratory samples adhering to prescribed transportation criteria and laboratory policies
- The courier will be trained to accept only samples that are properly identified, collected and labeled in accordance with established laboratory policies.
- The courier will be trained to deliver the samples to the designated departments/areas of the laboratory
- Maintain vehicle maintenance log and pre route vehicle condition checklist
- The courier acts as an ambassador for LabQ with clear communication both in person and on the phone with the clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
