CAD Manager

Position Purpose:
The CAD Manager manages a team of computer aided design (CAD) technicians and the department plan production. Establishes departmental standards for software, techniques, and tools to prepare technical drawings. Being a CAD Manager coordinates with engineers or designers and CAD technicians to ensure satisfaction with projects. Reviews performance and performs quality control checks on projects. Additionally, CAD Managers assess potential new uses for CAD within the organization. Uses knowledge of the field to keep the department’s software, techniques and tools up to date. The role requires strong organizational skills and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Essential Functions:
Reports to the director or head of unit/department. The CAD Manager manages staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
Required Traits & Characteristics:
- Expert AutoCAD/Civil 3D. Microstation a plus.
- Experience in design and drafting of civil site, utility and/or transportation projects.
- Experience delegating work, reviewing drawings, and performing quality control checks.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects with attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of working with macros and electronic delivery is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and teach Civil 3D classes for both new and experienced users.
- Work with users one on one to trouble shoot and provide technical support, as well as increase their knowledge and efficiency in Civil 3D.
- Implement CAD standards for electronic files, hardcopies, and processes to produce project plans and disseminate to staff (both managers and production staff).
- Advise and assist Civil 3D users with the most efficient process and methods.
- Works with IT on managing hardware and software licensing.
- Coordination with project and task managers and participation in plan production and QA/QC according to Standards.
- Establish Civil 3D performance goals that support division and project objectives.
Organizational Relationships:
Reports to Manager, Site Development Services
Required Education/Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in civil engineering and CAD drafting
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering a plus.
Travel:
- Travel between offices for collaboration with team members and for project meetings will be required
- Hybrid (remote/in-person) work will be considered
