About the role:
The Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing journal production projects as directed by Production Services leadership. The Project Manager will also assist in other division-wide special projects and initiatives including consulting projects and strategic planning.
How you will make an impact:
- Use knowledge of traditional journal production workflows to develop and refine workflows from acceptance through publication on assigned production projects.
- Manage the onboarding process of new clients and projects in the production division.
- Oversee teams of production and/or copy editors to support project and client directives, including training, documentation maintenance, and workload distribution.
- Monitor key metrics to ensure projects meet client and business expectations including production schedules, turnaround time, and quality metrics.
- Serve as primary point of communication with all project stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and internal staff.
- Build relationships with clients through regular communication and reporting of project status, troubleshooting workflow challenges, and adapting to changing customer needs.
- Act as a liaison between clients, internal software team, and vendor(s) to ensure technical requirements align with client needs on the project.
- Actively work to improve efficiency and processes of existing projects.
- Assist with workflow audits and other consultative projects, both formal and informal.
- Contribute to strategic planning of Production Services division.
- Minimum three years experience managing traditional journal production workflows including writing protocols, refining processes, and change management.
- Understanding of technical requirements and deliverables for traditional journal production workflows.
- Experience working with high-level production concepts and technology like platforms, software, and other industry trends.
- High-level proficiency with at least one major online production tracking system.
- Ability to independently manage multiple, concurrent tasks.
- Strong problem solving and solution research skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication (English).
- Experience providing outstanding customer service, managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, and working in highly collaborative team settings.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a time driven, deadline-based environment.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to customers from non-technical backgrounds.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with Adobe suite preferred.
- Knowledge of basic HTML, CSS, and/or SQL preferred.
- Technical background preferred.
