The Vector Control Director leads the development and implementation of efforts to control mosquitos within the Williston Vector Control District.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. - Plans, directs, and supervises field surveillance and ground and aerial larviciding and adulticiding operations; evaluates program effectiveness and recommends modifications to the vector control plan as needed
- Manages inventory and assets according to Williams County guidelines; oversees purchases of equipment, chemicals, and supplies
- Ensures all equipment, vehicles, and devices are properly constructed, calibrated, and maintained
- Oversees the department safety program; ensures staff are adequately trained and adhere to all safety protocol
- Performs laboratory procedures related to the surveillance and control of vector-borne illnesses, such as mosquito species identification and qRT-PCR testing
- Maintains detailed daily records and ensures documentation meets all established county, state, and federal guidelines
- Monitors advancements in mosquito control practices through training and self-study and incorporates innovation to enhance program operations
- Prepares reports and maps to assist in analyzing program effectiveness and evolution
- Administers vector control software
- Coordinates with private and public agencies to promote collaborative methods to address vector control goals
- Conducts community education and public relations to increase awareness of department programs, goals, and seasonal conditions
- Collaborates with the Vector Control Board to establish an annual budget; administers the budget and monitors expenditures following established policies
- Assigns, directs and supervises seasonal and clerical staff
- Creates and maintains manuals and documentation for training and operational purposes
- Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in entomology, biology, public health, or a closely related field AND three (3) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, which must include 2 years of management or supervision
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Most have or be able to obtain ND pesticide applicator certification within two months of employment
**Williams County Vector Control owns an Unmanned Aerial System to aid in mosquito management services. Operation of this drone requires an FAA remote pilot certificate (Part 107) and ND aerial applicators license.**
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
- Work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures
- Exposure to pressurized chemical vapors
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds
Compensation and Benefits
Start pay: $75,000.00/year and may vary depending on experience and training.
