Elementary School Principal (Tenure Area District Administrator)

Summary: Appointed by the Board of Education and reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the elementary school principal serves as the school and educational leader responsible for development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of a comprehensive program of education and student services. Administers the program in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements. Serves as an advocate for the staff, school, students and community as appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. create a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff.
2. provide for school safety. provide for the physical, intellectual and emotional safety in order for effective teaching and learning to take place.
3. manage fiscal resources in transparent ways in accordance with laws, policies and procedures to provide the school with personnel, materials and other resources that are necessary to fulfill the goals and purposes of the school, its instructional program and related activities.
4. provide an atmosphere of efficiency, cooperation, stimulation, recognition and service in which the school program can operate most effectively.
   
   
5. partner with the school community to promote student learning.
6. leadership and governance: consistently demonstrate high moral, ethical, and professional standards of performance and personal integrity, which includes addressing problems and issues in an open, honest, and timely manner.
   
   
7. student discipline and supervision: develop and implement standards of discipline and procedures.
8. Building Management: opening and closing of school year, scheduling of pupils and assignment of teachers, pupil attendance and coordination of extracurricular activities.
9. Community Relations: work with leaders and members of the parent-teacher organizations and community groups, communicate activities, changes and new developments through newsletters and meetings.
10. student services and activities: provide for the development and organization of programs and activities to meet student needs. work with parent and student representatives in the development of activities and programs.
11. records management: provide a plan for the organization, safeguard and use of records pertaining to students and staff.

Quaifications:

1. appropriate new york state certification
2. ability to create a safe, orderly and positive school climate for students and staff.
3. ability to foster growth, creativity and flexibility using a variety of techniques.
4. ability to facilitate resolution of complex interpersonal issues.
5. demonstrate successful experience in shared decision making, program development, staff supervision and evaluation.
6. knowledge and skill in fiscal management, staff development and human relations.
7. knowledge and demonstrative skills in the use of technology for teaching and learning.
8. managerial skill in planning, organizing, delegating and listening.
9. knowledge about laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of public schools.
10. ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in english.
11. physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
12. background check and fingerprint clearance through identogo / teach (nys education department).
