Wilson College is currently seeking a Social Media Manager to join our Marketing and Communications team. The Social Media Manager actively and strategically manages Wilson College’s social media channels, including those dedicated to content from the institution as well as the president of the College. In addition, this position provides oversight and strategic recommendations to social media channels that fall under the Wilson College brand including athletics, and others that are focused on alumni engagement, enrollment management (prospective students), and various channels led by current students, i.e. clubs and organizations. These channels include but are not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, and TikTok.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Annually, develop, implement, and manage Wilson’s overall social media strategy, using the College’s strategic plan as a guide, after conducting competitive research, platform determination, messaging, and audience identification (institutional channels, alumni channels, presidential channels, and student engagement channels).
- Plan, create, publish, and share new content (including original text, images, and video) on a daily basis for targeted audiences that increases brand awareness with potential students, builds meaningful connections with the College’s constituents, and encourages alumni and community members to engage with the brand.
- Serves as an active presence on campus and keeps abreast of current higher education issues in order to identify intersections between Wilson and current higher education trends
- Serves as the main point of contact and support person for the creation and management of social media presences of campus partners (i.e. Alumni Relations, Enrollment Management, athletics, and various student-led clubs and organizations).
- Help train internal partners on the use of social media best practices, as well as the importance of maintaining the College’s brand identity via social media.
- Collaborate within the marketing and communications team to develop social media campaigns that correlate to and support the College’s other marketing and advertising channels/strategies, i.e. website, public relations, digital advertising, constituent communications.
- Stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technology.
- Optimize profiles and feeds within each platform to increase the visibility of the College’s social content.
- In partnership with the Associate Director of Digital Advertising and Marketing, manage social media SEO to improve website search engine rankings and online visibility.
- Monitor and moderate social media comments on College-owned posts and track brand mentions across social media platforms.
- Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules to support the annual social media strategy, partnering with additional stakeholders managing channels related to the brand but not directly managed by the Marketing and Communications department.
- Nurture and guide partnerships with students to generate content for the College’s social media channels.
- Capture and analyze the appropriate social data/metrics, insights, and social media best practices to measure the success of social media campaigns, then use that information to refine future campaigns.
- Work with copywriters and designers within the Marketing and Communications department to ensure content is informative, appealing, and meets institutional brand standards.
- Assist team members within Marketing and Communications with additional projects, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCY:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to and with various constituents.
- Proven copywriting skills for all social media channels that amplify the College’s brand voice.
- Ability to create, plan, and produce creative, visually appealing multimedia content (images, copy, video).
- Strong project management skills and the ability to organize and execute an annual social media calendar.
- An understanding of social media strategy and how channels may intersect with other projects/priorities of the Marketing and Communications department.
- Demonstrated agility with the ability to juggle multiple projects, deadlines, and constituents simultaneously.
- The use of a smartphone as an essential tool for performing job duties.
- Use of all softwares within the Adobe Creative Suite, on a Macintosh platform.
- Experience using and interpreting data generated by each platform’s insights tools
- Budget management experience helpful.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTES:
- No direct reports
- From time to time, this position may be asked to assign and curate social media content created by a student intern.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
- Full-time exempt, reporting to the Vice President for Marketing, Communications, and Strategic Initiatives.
- This position requires the individual to be on campus and/or creating content and posting to the College’s social media channels often outside of a traditional Monday – Friday work week and traditional work hours. Because of the nature of the position’s responsibilities, the individual will work with the Vice President for Marketing, Communications, and Strategic Initiatives to maintain an appropriate work/life balance.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field is required;
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years strategic, organizational social media experience
