WIN Waste Innovations is a vertically integrated business with a platform of 50 strategically located collection, transfer and disposal assets. These include waste-to-energy facilities, transfer stations, ash monofills, landfills, and fleets of rail cars and collection vehicles. We process more than 11 million tons of waste annually, converting 6.7 million tons of waste into clean, renewable energy that powers 340,000 homes. We recycle more than 234,000 tons of plastic, paper and metals from the waste stream.
We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant at our Corporate office in Portsmouth, NH. The Senior Accountant will oversee assigned accounting general ledger area and supports additional tasks and projects as necessary in the corporate office. The Senior Accountant should have combined experience in public and private companies, with prior experience in public accounting preferred. This individual will be a strategic thinker with proven ability to get into the details, multi-task, work on short-term & long-term project-based initiatives and see areas to completion. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Essential Functions
- Performs month-end close functions which includes compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare journal entries and document business transactions. Also reviews and evaluates work of others to ensure quality, timeliness and adherence to policy and procedures.
- Prepares and reviews monthly balance sheet account reconciliations with proper supporting documentation.
- Analyzes general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Analyzes monthly activity with relevant operational data to provide explanatory information and/or raise appropriate questions to operations and finance business partners.
- Review of contracts for application of accounting policy and GAAP.
- May provide direction to the different accounting functional areas (invoice processing, billing, cash receipts, work order processing, month-end close, journal entries, and statistical data).
- Proactively identifies issues causing inefficiencies and assist in developing and implementing process improvements to streamline general ledger accounting and internal reporting processes.
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize discretion and judgment as to matters of significance and communicate effectively to Accounting Managers.
- Supports our Operations and Finance business partners with monthly analysis
- Supports both internal and external financial audit requests, as well as preparing working papers for annual audit and footnote support.
- Ability to lead aspects of projects with coaching and feedback
- Implements best practices, standards and procedures in all accounting functions and activities.
- Establishes good rapport, provides support, and responds to information requests with respect to business partners, auditors, and company personnel to maintain strong relationships.
- Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, with five or more years of previous experience with a mix of public and private industry a plus.
- Waste management industry knowledge required
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- CPA designation preferred, with experience in public accounting a plus.
- Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Great project management skills and able to work independently and autonomously, relaying back to the manager periodically
- Advanced accounting, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable, inventory, ERP system and energy/power industry experience may be required.
- Hands-on, self-motivated individual with strong communication, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must possess strong organizational and time management skills
- Problem solving skills: able to analyze a problem, troubleshoot it and provided a end-to-end solution
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team contributing to a positive team spirit
- Strong Excel and accounting system skills
- Communicate effectively in written and oral formats to various situations and audiences
- Facilitate working sessions for medium sized teams
Computer Skills
- Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office suite or similar office software
- Proficient in MS Dynamics 365 BC or comparable accounting system.
