The Mathematics Department teaches with a focus on student engagement and productive struggle and is looking for a dynamic full-time teacher (5 sections) to join our collaborative team. The successful candidate will ideally have independent school experience with a degree in Mathematics and/or Math Education and should be able and willing to teach grades 7-12 (Advanced PreAlgebra through AP Calculus). Our current opening will most likely be a combination of Middle School and Upper School courses and is determined each year based on the department’s needs and teachers’ strengths. Technology is integrated extensively throughout our curriculum including TI-Nspire handhelds in Algebra 2/Trig and higher, and interactive programs such as Desmos, Kahoot, Edpuzzle, Delta Math, and ALEKS.
Summary of Major Responsibilities
- Teach five sections of Math across middle and upper school
- Design, coordinate, and implement lessons with members of the math department and also at times with other departments to build cross-disciplinary experiences, especially under the STEAM umbrella
- Monitor and evaluate students’ progress and communicate with families and Division teams regarding student progress
- Collaborate with department members on evaluating and refining curriculum based on student progress and trends in mathematical education
- Participate in regular, purposeful pedagogy meetings and professional development sessions
- Participate actively in the life of the school through attendance at events, committee membership, and/or leadership of extracurricular activities
- Perform other duties within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job, as requested by the divisional directors

Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field, advanced degree preferred
- A minimum of three years of full-time experience teaching Mathematics, five or more years preferred
- A demonstrable passion for mathematical thinking and working with young people
- Evidence of significant recent professional development
- Excellent technology skills and experience integrating technology into the curriculum
- Experience in a school with a similar philosophy, teaching methods, and curricula to those of Windward; knowledge and understanding of independent school communities preferred
- Willingness to contribute to school life outside of the classroom
- A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people
