What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at Winpak Films?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for managing our cost accounting systems designed to accurately measure costs associated with the production of flexible films and conversion operations. Due to complexities associated production and converting operations and it is imperative that you understand all components from start to finish. The position is responsible for highlighting opportunities for continuous improvement and promoting the efforts throughout the organization. This position will report to the Director of Finance and work closely with the operations, technical and sales teams.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the Company’s standard costing system and provide recommendations on potential changes in costing process or systems.
- Plan, Study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity from order to cash.
- Transform the current costing system to ensure that the organization can cost dynamically for any changes related to resin, scrap variances, labor, packaging and transportation.
- Recommend costs adjustments that will support business objectives and plans and will not hinder ability to capture future value.
- Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Collect, prepare, and present results and ideas to upper management including time and material opportunities.
- Create models to simulate costs and perform “what-if” analyzes.
- Analyze and report on material, manufacturing, labor, warehouse overhead and other expenses to various levels of management.
- Collaborate in cross-functional capacity to meet business needs.
- Review quotes including the verification of costs utilizing indented Bill-of-Material and assigning of gross margins.
- Review daily Gross Margin reports for reasonableness, investigating any abnormalities.
- Review pricing and manufacturing contribution by market and product to provide recommendations to the marketing/sales team on margin improvement opportunities.
- Analyze changes in product structure, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs and pricing.
- Analyze actual production costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Works with various departments within the organization to make improvements in the manufacturing process as it relates to costing of product, ensuring items are competitively priced.
- Using our standard cost system, develop cost models/ revised cost estimates to account for fluctuations in raw material costs.
- Participate in month/quarter-end year-end close processes including reporting and audits.
- Conduct ad hoc analyses, special projects, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent inter-personal, communication (verbal and written), self-motivating, and organizational skills
- Experience using an ERP system and Microsoft office products.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- Five years of experience in manufacturing preferred
- Five years of increasing financial/analytical experience, preferably in plastics/packing industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, Masters preferred)
