What will I really be doing?
You’ll start by gaining an understanding of our culture, identifying what we’re doing right, and recommending solutions for the areas where we suck. You’ll work with our current HR team to expand their knowledge base and grow into a team capable of achieving great things together.
The HR manager’s role will grow from initially executing an annual plan to becoming an integral part of the development of a long-term vision for the department. They will be a cheerleader for both the company and its team members. They will align with leadership to assist in understanding and developing tools, programs, policies, and the culture needed to get to where we want to be. We know great companies have great HR teams. You’ll be the captain of that great team.
What kind of experience is required?
We’re looking for an HR specialist with at least five years of HR experience. Bonus points if it’s in a manufacturing environment. And you need at least three years of some sort of management experience. It doesn’t matter if that management wasn’t in HR. We’re more interested in folks who have developed the necessary soft skills to be a good manager. They are great communicators, can connect and engage with people, lead by example, and can quickly assess situations and inherently make the right choice.
Are there any other qualities I need?
You can empathize with team members while balancing the needs of the company. You are a genuine optimist and handle challenging moments with resiliency. You’re a natural at building strong relationships. Our workforce includes folks from across the socioeconomic spectrum. It’s important that you can adjust your communication style to effectively connect with everyone. And we’re a bit unconventional, so a good sense of humor is a definite plus.
What challenges will I face?
Our current workforce spans four age generations; each has different wants and needs. We need a leader who can communicate comfortably with every generation. Winston’s overall perspective is positive, but that vision isn’t shared uniformly in all parts of the company. Our ideal candidate will unify the company’s vision so that every team member understands where we are going.
Labor challenges certainly aren’t unique to Winston. It’s an issue throughout the entire economy. Our ideal candidate will take a leadership role in owning this challenge and finding outside-the-box solutions.
And what’s in it for me?
We want to be a company where people enjoy coming to work. We’re making progress, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. Our goal is for every team member to think of the company as a partner in their own personal success. You will play an instrumental role in helping us be an awesome employer by using your knowledge and experience to imagine creative ways to reach that goal. The ideal fit here is someone who can be an advocate and ally for each employee while remaining mindful of the company’s wellbeing.
