A Sales Tax Specialist will be responsible for supporting the finance department with a focus on sales tax and completing other functions including periodic projects and audits.
Position responsibilities:
- Assist in preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns. (CA, CO, GA, IL, IN, IA, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, WI)
- Research and determine sales/use tax treatment of sales and purchases related to the material handling industry.
- Work with customers to assist in resolving any sales tax discrepancies on invoices.
- Work with the internal sales staff; accounts receivables & payables to assist them in determining the U.Ss sale tax treatment for customer/vendor orders and invoices.
- Review exemption certificates for validity & maintain exemption certificate database.
- Assist Finance Manager with implementation and maintenance of sales tax processes to ensure we are compliant with sales tax laws in all registered states.
- Assist Finance Manager with the coordination and management of all U.S. sales and use tax audits, including the accumulation of audit data and the negotiation of audit settlements.
- File and review refund claims.
Essential skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
- 2 years sales tax experience
- Strong technical, research, and analytical skills.
- Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with an emphasis in Excel
- High degree of ethics and integrity
- Ability to think and act independently and objectively, prioritize, organize and make decisions on a timely basis.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
