Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently seeking Entry Level to Junior Engineering Staff to join our Northwest Civil / Water Resources team. We have offices in Portland, Oregon and Kirkland or Lynnwood, Washington, and offer a flexible working environment. You will support a variety of projects and tasks, including field investigations and inspections, sampling, data collection, construction observations, and office work. Our projects include a combination of surface water, stormwater, and civil engineering projects such as feasibility studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, preliminary engineering, design services, and construction-phase support. Our projects relate to surface water infrastructure; recent examples include stormwater site design, natural / stream channel restoration, large fish-passable culverts, stream and bank stabilization, and regional water quality facilities. This position presents an opportunity to work with and learn from our team of experienced Civil and Water Resources engineers and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field exploration, inspection, and analysis; provides technical support with supervision.
- Perform field testing; uses equipment and instrumentation.
- Prepare field reports, internal correspondence, and sections of formal reports.
- Act as a data gatherer; prepares maps and charts; runs simple computer programs.
- Interpret data and test results. With experience, may write complete reports.
- May be assigned field construction oversight responsibilities. Ability to conduct or oversee some field assignments, and willingness for limited travel.
- With experience, may supervise subcontractors and/or company employees.
- Conduct engineering or scientific calculations; perform minimal design work, preliminary analysis, and layout.
- Work collaboratively with environmental staff and regulators and other Wood offices and teams

- BS or MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field; prefer coursework in water resources.
- 0 to 5 years of related experience.
- Current EIT or ability to immediately obtain EIT
- Familiarity with standard office software (e.g., MS Office, MS Excel, AutoCAD, Project)
- Familiarity with hydraulics and hydrologic computer models like HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding field work and data collection at varied times of day.
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
- Team player with strong problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Prefer coursework or experience in:
- Engineering design using CAD
- Technical writing and presentations
- Surface-water sampling and hydraulics
- Must pass drug test, background check, have valid driver license and be able to drive, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Wood’s driving (MVR) policy.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of time is preferred.
