Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Designer in Trail, BC.
Reporting to the Engineering Department Manager, this position is located in our Trail, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for providing Structural Design support on a wide variety of industrial projects.

Our Trail office currently numbers over 50 engineers, designers and support personnel. Trail, located in Southeastern British Columbia near the cities of Rossland, Nelson, and Castlegar, is an affordable family-oriented community of approximately 10,000 people. The area offers excellent education and health care facilities, as well as access to world-class skiing at Red Mountain, hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, golf and all outdoor activities available in the Kootenays. The Wood Trail office is currently offering a hybrid working environment, with your work week split between attending the Wood Office and working from home. This situation is subject to change and is dependent on project requirements, office plans, and Wood policy changes.
Wood’s Trail engineering team and company-wide environmental specialists are focused on Carbon Management & reduction initiatives and are providing solutions to Energy services within the region to reduce emissions and protect our environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide structural design, 3D modeling and drafting support for the construction or repair of industrial buildings, facilities and services
- Prepare drawings for structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and/or wood structures using primarily Aveva E3D/PDMS and/or AutoCAD.
- Reviewing project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation against project standards and specifications.
- Prepare MTOs for project estimates.
- Review Vendor shop drawings.
- Checking work prepared by other Structural Designers.
- Perform site visits to obtain field information to support design executon.
- Coordinate and work with project team members across all disciplines
Skills / Qualifications
- Technical diploma with experience in structural design and drafting
- 3D Design / drafting experience with advanced skills primarily using AVEVA E3D/PDMS
- Solid understanding of structural and architectural engineering aspects of light to heavy industrial projects
- Experience working on mining and/or heavy industrial projects would be considered an asset
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite of software
