Wood has a contract opportunity for a Technical Editor to join our Training & Competence Services team in Vancouver on an ‘as needed’ basis. For the ideal candidate, the Technical Editor role can be performed remotely from home.
Due to the nature of the work, we will consider qualified applicants from out of province (BC, AB, SK) who are able to work on Pacific time hours.
Responsibilities:
- Edit web‑based training materials and print materials (manuals, procedures, lesson plans) involving highly specialized content.
- Test functionality of web-based training materials.
- Ensure deliverables are written and visually presented in a way that is appropriate for their target audience, with consideration for organization, word use, comprehensibility, completeness, and correctness.
- Ensure deliverables adhere to internal quality and project standards.
- Support development and maintenance of internal writing style guides and project-specific style sheets.
- Work with management to improve company quality standards and guidelines by providing feedback on projects (lessons learned) and industry best practices.
- Assist and mentor other technical editors on staff.
- Work with project team members directly, from planning stage to completion, on project requirements, schedules, information requirements, quality standards, and guidelines.
- Learn terminology and usage conventions of widely varied industries including oil and gas, pulp and paper, water treatment, and mining.
Skills / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as English, Technical Writing, Communications, or Engineering.
- 7 years of experience as a technical editor.
- Analytical thinking and strong attention to detail.
- Strong Microsoft Word skills.
- Oil and gas, pulp and paper, or related industry experience is an asset.
