Due to the success and growth of the company, we’re now seeking a Senior Wind Analyst/Chief Consultant Wind to join the Climate Analytics, Loads and Metocean (CALM) team. This is a full-time position, and you will be part of our Engineering Division reporting directly to the Head of Department. You will get the opportunity to help grow the business and contribute to the clean energy transition.
Wood Thilsted’s CALM department has wind and metocean experts working closely within the same team, with the objective of bringing these two, historically separate, disciplines together and getting the best from both worlds. The team is also integrated with colleagues with expertise in foundation design and loads analysis, to identify and refine the approach taken to our atmospheric and oceanographic conditions assessments, with the aim of delivering the most accurate design inputs relevant to the stage of design. You will be working on offshore wind projects around the globe in new and emerging offshore wind markets; from the US to Asia, delivering cutting edge Wind Resource, Energy Yield and Atmospheric Site Conditions Assessments.
About the role:
As a Senior Wind Analyst/Chief Consultant Wind, your main assignment will be to deliver, or manage the delivery of Wind Resource, Energy Yield and Atmospheric Site Conditions Assessments for offshore wind projects in pre-construction stages.
You will also get involved in bid development, project management and ongoing technical development of WT’s services, relating to the above listed key services. We are also seeking someone who will proactively contribute towards the development and growth of the team, through sharing knowledge and experience and mentoring others.
We are looking for someone with a minimum of 5 years experience in the offshore wind industry. For more experienced professionals with in excess of 7 years the position of Chief Consultant is available. You will preferably hold a master’s degree or higher in a related science or engineering discipline and should also have experience overseeing the work of project teams and working within a multidisciplinary technical team.
This position is available in Copenhagen (Denmark); Bristol, London, Edinburgh (United Kingdom), Warsaw (Poland), Boston (United States).
You will be responsible for:
- Developing detailed technical scopes, liaising with customers and developing price and programmes for delivering wind studies. This may either include delivering the work yourself for, e.g. early stage projects or, managing other employees in the team delivering the work.
- Quality checking the work to be delivered
- Development of in-house tools to automate the assessments and reporting
- R&D within your technical specialism
- Develop the team to expand the offering with technical development and training of other team members to deliver Wind Site Conditions Assessments and Wind Resource Assessments to engender growth and ensure quality across the team
- Maintaining client relationships, attending relevant industry events/conferences and providing though leadership in your technical area.
Do you have what it takes?
We are looking for exceptional candidates with:
- Demonstrable technical understanding of wind energy technology and experience of delivering Wind Site Conditions Assessments (for input to Design Basis part A1) and Wind Resource Assessments for offshore wind projects. Should include good technical understanding of wake modelling approaches, as well as assessment of Normal and Extreme Wind Conditions
- Experience with instrumentation and QA/QC of wind measurements from a range of wind measurement systems, including meteorological masts, fixed and floating Lidars, and optionally scanning Lidars.
- Strong programming skills in Matlab and/or Python
- Excellent organizational skills and capability of keeping track of multiple aspects of work, re-appraising and re-prioritising activities throughout the project lifecycle as both your team’s availability and the client’s requirements evolve;
- Effective communication with colleagues, clients, consultants and contractors through a variety of media, including both web-based telecommunication and face-to-face meetings;
- Team player who is pro-active in your efforts to engage with others;
- Demonstrate a strong drive to fulfil your assignments, and a willingness to take the initiative when faced with opportunities to exceed expectations;
- Excellent numeracy, literacy, communication and interpersonal skills;
Furthermore, it is advantageous if you have experience of some of the following:
- Relevant experience in the offshore renewables sector;
- Appraising and managing offshore wind measurement campaigns (including onshore as well as offshore measurements)
- Turbine modelling
- Wind Farm layout optimisation
- Experience in tropical cyclone prone regions with respect to extreme analysis
- Experience of using ArcGIS or QGIS
- Development of bespoke software, especially targeting streamlined/automated processes/reporting workflows (in Python and/or Matlab)
- Experience of using LaTeX
- Experience of working within different types of contractual arrangements, for example as a client, as a consultant/contractor, as a collaborative partner, etc.;
- Developing proposals for engineering contracts;
- An appreciation of the current and projected scales of the offshore wind sector, including different turbine and foundation technologies, and the different types of challenges prominent in different regions of the global market;
