What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?


Woodard & Curran is seeking an Water/Wastewater Operator in Maple Shade, New Jersey. The successful candidate regularly participates in the daily operations and maintenance of Maple Shade, NJ’s Water and Wastewater Utility to include Treatment Plants and Collection and Distribution Systems as directed by Woodard & Curran’s management. The ideal candidate will work a scheduled day shift which will include either a Saturday or a Sunday each week (but not both) and will be required to participate in an on-call rotation on weekends, holidays and outside normal shift hours for emergency calls and/or alarm call outs.   This is a union position, and you will be required to pay union dues whether or not you join the union.

What will you need to succeed?
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • High School or trade school diploma is required.
  • 2 years of experience in a Water and/or wastewater treatment facility operation and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
  •  At least one New Jersey S, T, C or W license is required. As an alternative, we may consider an unlicensed candidate for employment in an Operator Trainee position with applicable industry experience. Unlicensed Operator Trainees must obtain at least 1 NJDEP Operator’s license within 24 months of date of hire as a condition of employment. The expectation to obtain additional licenses and/or license upgrades is a must.
  • Unlicensed Operator Trainees will be required to join the NJ Water Apprenticeship Program.
  • Valid New Jersey CDL with tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods, equipment, materials, and tools employed in the operation' and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment, Collection and Distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in water and wastewater treatment work.
  • Knowledge of computer applications for water quality sample data and maintenance record keeping.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply instructions, drawings, and specifications for work assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

$16.50 - $33.94 an hour
The salary ranges given below are a national average only and may be different for this role based on specific collective bargaining agreements or contract requirements.

Please reference this project specific pay range instead.  In addition, for facilities that are unionized and receive benefits through the union, the benefits may differ from what is listed.

Project Specific Pay Range:  Unlicensed is $16.50/hour, Licensed can range from $21.85 – $33.94/hour, depending on how many licenses are held and the level of those licenses.
