Job Title: Center Store Manager
Description: Manage Center Store departments labor, merchandising and gross profit.
Reports To: Assistant Store Manager
Responsibilities:
  • Manage all center store departments including grocery, frozen, liquor, GM, HBC, and dairy.
  • Manager center store Teammates.
  • Involved in training of center store teammates.
  • Responsible for a weekly display plan for end aisle merchandising and AD promotion.
  • Responsible for allocation of shelf space according to movement, capacity and profitability.
  • To supervise/order all center store products and supplies so as to minimize out-of-stocks while maintaining the desired grocery inventory turns.
  • To greet customers, respond to customer questions/requests/ complaints and explain store policies in a courteous manner.
  • To be observant of security problems and develop methods of prevention (vendor receiving, employee theft, shoplifting).
  • To supervise and assist with: 1) preparation of the back room for receipt of merchandise; 2) unloading of trucks; 3) checking of the load for shortage/overage; 4) sorting of cases according to aisle or pallet for stocking; 5) stocking of merchandise on shelf; 6) building of displays; 7) storage of back stock.
  • To supervise and assist with: 1) cleaning of store floors, check lanes, carts, restrooms, parking lot and shelves; 2) safe use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • To supervise and assist with: 1) loading of stocking carts/pallets; 2) transportation of cases to the sales floor either on stocking carts or pallets; 3) matching of the case strip to the shelf tag/stock; 4) placement of merchandise in the designated shelf/display position/area; 5) the "face/front" program for the front row of each display; 6) the immediate pick up/removal of all broken containers, packing materials/boxes from the sales floor or customers pathway.
  • To assure the safety of self, customers and co-workers by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a store manager of any potential hazard immediately.
  • To perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the store manager, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers during peak periods of business.
  • To supervise and assist the safety procedures used in the operation of the baler, case cutter, pallet jack and fork-lift and floor cleaning equipment.
  • To supervise and assist with the manual price marking/labeling of merchandise without a UPC code.
  • To supervise and assist with the movement of damaged/unsalable and "returnable" products from shelves to the backroom, sorting of the materials into bins and the return of damage to the reclaim center.
  • To supervise and assist with the use of proper case opening and product stacking techniques to prevent damage to product.
  • To supervise and assist with the removal of trash from the aisle, operating the baler, putting the compacted bale on a pallet and loading salvage on to trucks.
  • To supervise and assist with the changing of signs, light bulbs, tags and price markers.
  • To communicate with the store manager on problems, recommendations for change, effectiveness of plans and merchandising decisions.
Task of the Job - This position generally involves:
  • Mobility:
    • Move while conducting training and orientation of HBC/GM Department personnel, approximately 50 yards.
    • Move to supervise: the receiving of product, movement of product to the floor or storage area, opening/cutting of cases, inspect product for damage, sorting of cases/merchandise, building of displays on the shelf and at end aisles, the allocation of space in HBC/GM categories, order merchandise and supplies, cleaning and maintenance, removal of trash/debris from the department, price marking and signage throughout the department, approximately 50 yards.
    • Work on tile or concrete for duration of shift.
    • To move totes from pallet to backroom/to sales floor for stocking, approximately 75 yards.
    • To move cardboard/packing material to the backroom, approximately 75 yards.
    • To move totes/damaged product from the sales floor to overhead storage or backroom storage, approximately 75 yards.
  • Lift and stack empty totes from floor to 72 inches overhead.
  • Lift a maximum of 45 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches.
  • Lift a maximum of 45 lbs. from 6 inches to 84 inches on to overhead/backroom storage rack.
  • Move cardboard into baler, approximately 4 feet. (Must be 18 years or older to move cardboard into baler.)
  • Carry a maximum of 45 lbs. up to 15 feet.
  • Pick up/move/sort/open/"face/front" (a/an) case/item/trash/from floor/shelf/ground/pallet/rack storage.
  • Use maintenance and product transportation equipment.
  • Attain merchandise/cases on the top of overhead/backroom storage shelves/rack, up to 84 inches from the floor.
  • Reach forward/down/up to 36 inches to attain merchandise on stocking cart or pallets.
  • Reach forward/down/up to 36 inches to clean shelves/floor area or control maintenance/stocking equipment.
  • Reach forward/down/up to 36 inches to place cases/items on shelving/displays.
  • Reach up to full extension of arms to place signs and banners.
  • Handle labels/signs/tags.
  • Handle case cutter/utility knife.
  • Grasp and handle crushable/metal/paper/plastic store products.
  • Handle cardboard/packaging and debris.
  • Operate cash register keys.
  • Handle cash and coins.
  • Twist at the waist while cleaning, cutting/opening, sorting, stocking, load/unloading, moving/removing merchandise, and stocking merchandise.
  • Move stocking carts approximately 75 yards.
  • Climb on ladders, cases, shelving and stairs up to 10 feet in height.
  • Balance on cases of product and overhead rack.
  • Stock shelves 8 inches from the floor to 36 inches in height.
  • Pick up cardboard, packaging and debris from floor.
  • See cases, case cutter edge, case strips, shelf location, product size/description/quality, customers, totes, shelf tags, and labels on products, stocking carts, knives, packaging materials, debris on floor, aisle markers, and signs.
  • Perceive color difference on product and product labels.
  • See cleaning/maintenance equipment, pallet jacks, and baler controls.
  • See forms used in the operation of the HBC/GM Department.
  • Listen to customer, coworker, vendor, and driver questions and responses.
  • Utilize intercom/phone system.
  • Listen to the sound of baler/pallet jack/cleaning equipment operation.
  • Read case labels/case strips, signs, tags, shelf signs, numbers and aisle markers and department forms.
  • Read equipment and chemical warning labels.
  • Read operational forms and reports.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/co-workers/employees concerning store/department policy/procedures and use of equipment.
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Work and educational history demonstrating stability.
  • Basic reading and writing ability; able to read instructions, merchandise labels, warehouse order codes, numbers, reports, printed paper and forms.
  • Make judgments concerning: the placement of merchandise on the shelf/display, pricing, employee scheduling, order of product/supplies, department conditions, hiring/supervision of employees, merchandising plans, departments operational policies and procedures and the sales/promotion of merchandise.
  • Good interpersonal communications.
Preferred:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior Grocery Department experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.

Work Environment:
  • Inside and outside work with extreme variations in heat/cold/dust/ humidity from entrance/back door/compressors/cooler/freezer.
