What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Education ESL Instructor- Part Time position at Workforce Essentials Inc?
This is a part time position teaching ESL classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
Purpose and Functions:
The Adult Education Part Time Instructor collaborates with the Adult Education Program Director and County Supervisor or County Lead to ensure an educational atmosphere where adult education students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential. Opportunities include earning a high school diploma, improving basic skills in math, language, science, social studies, and reading or show a level gain in the six levels as defined by the National Reporting System (NRS). Additional opportunities will include soft skills and workforce readiness preparation to prepare the students for their transition into post-secondary training.
The Instructor aids the Adult Education Program Director and County Supervisor or County Lead in organizing and implementing an instructional program that will meet the needs of adult education students. Reviews and evaluates classroom instruction of part time staff to affirm that appropriate curriculum and effective teaching methods are being practiced. Verifies students are achieving academically and realizing their goals. Instructor assists in the scheduling of classes.
General Responsibilities:
· Effectively plans, organizes, instructs, and evaluates student work.
· Knowledgeable about all curriculum changes / additions as set forth by the division of Adult Education (DAE).
· Provides a classroom environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences through appropriate implementation and evaluation of classroom instructional activities.
· Spends majority of their scheduled hours engaging with students to further the student’s successful completion of the program.
· Assists in evaluating the changing needs in curriculum. Recommends plans for improvement using the current curriculum developed by the division of Adult Education (DAE) as a guide. Provides staff instruction on the implementation of these changes.
· Conducts and / or partners with staff that performs Adult Education orientation and testing. Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS), Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and Official Practice Tests (OPT) will be utilized.
· Ensures students in NRS levels 1-4 are tested after 50-60 hours of instruction.
· Ensures students in NRS levels 5-6 are tested after 30-59 hours of instruction.
· Ensures students who pre-tested using CASAS will test again after 70-100 hours of instruction.
· Exhibits professional and ethical behavior standards when interacting with students, staff, and community.
· Ensures that student records are promptly, accurately, and effectively entered into the VOS data management system.
· Motivates, develops, and inspires part time instructors to provide a positive educational environment to encourage active learning engagement by students.
· Accountable for meeting performance goals in his /her course. Provides leadership and direction to part time instructors in achieving program wide performance goals established by the National Reporting System (NRS).
· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally to include preparing and presenting information to both large and small groups.
· Accountable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal direct supervision in a team environment.
· Exhibits strong work ethic in order to achieve academic program goals.
· Knowledge of basic computer skills to include Microsoft office programs such as: Word, Excel, and Power Point.
· Identifies, selects, and adapts instructional resources to meet student needs.
· Travel to satellite locations may be necessary.
· Ensures that staff follows Workforce Essentials, Inc. policies and procedures as well as the policies and procedures of our partner organizations where classes are held on their premises.
· Collaborates and helps the County Supervisor or County Lead to plan, develop and carry out recruitment activities and strategies.

Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Education or related discipline.
· Tennessee Teacher’s License and/or State Approved waiver (Form7) or 1- 3 years’ experience/ leadership.
· Attendance at local and state activities and staff development.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Computer Skills to include Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
· Travel to satellite locations and correctional facilities as needed.
· Able to work a split schedule to include up to two nights per week.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Adult Education Experience preferred.
· Competency in grading and interpreting Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS), Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and Official Practice Tests (OPT).
· Expertise with Virtual One Stop (VOS) or database management system beneficial.
· Proven organizational, analytical, and time management skills to include the ability to accomplish deadlines requirements are essential.
· Professionalism in dress, speech and manners when dealing with students (current and potential), staff, and community.
· Duties to include both teaching and administrative tasks.
· In absence of teacher, provides regular instruction according to procedure.
· Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, good driving record and maintain vehicle insurance.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part time, hourly position up to 28 hours per work week. Normal hours of work are 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However; this position will require flexibility to modify work schedule to accommodate teaching classes up to two nights per week as needed or attending graduations or off-site meetings as required.
