Portland nonprofit is looking for a Kitchen Lead with previous experience who is a dedicated & collaborative worker
The employer is a local nonprofit dedicated to providing resources for underserved communities. They primarily serve people experiencing housing and food insecurity through our meal program and have two commercial kitchens where hundreds of meals are prepared every day of the week to be delivered to shelters in the Portland metro area.
The current position we are looking for is Kitchen Lead who will be responsible for supervising floor staff to ensure a smooth flow of operations.
Availability requirements:
- Five 8 hour shifts per week
- 9am-5:30pm and 7am-3:30pm availability
- Weekend availability
Job requirements & responsibilities:
- 2-3 years or more of professional cooking experience.
- Supervise and lead all floor staff.
- Report to kitchen management on daily occurrences.
- Be knowledgeable and up to date on both opening and closing duties.
- Assign tasks and course correct to maximize productivity and quality of product.
- Interpret and adjust menus as needed and take creative control of each meal.
- Ensure that daily and monthly cleaning tasks are being completed and executed properly.
- Make sure all meal counts, temp logs, and checklists are filled out daily.
- Send team members on break at appropriate times.
- Attend and participate in all necessary kitchen staff and management meetings.
- Maintain an expert understanding of health and food safety standards set by the state.
- Identify and resolve food safety violations while guiding staff on the proper procedures.
- Train and guide new staff on basic operations and procedures.
- Make certain that meals are ready to be boxed at the appropriate time.
- Periodically sign for and properly receiving shipments.
- Identify and correct improper storage practices.
- Check dates and labels in an effort to minimize food waste.
- Foster a professional, respectful and collaborative work environment.
- Follow and enforce all Our Streets policies and procedures.
Benefits:
- $22/hour for an "introductory" 2 month period, after which will go up to $23.50a/hour.
