Job Purpose: Under continuous supervision of the Department Supervisor and manager this is an in-training capacity to determine suitability for Pension work.
Job Duties:
- Demonstrate continuous learning improvement and the ability to learn the Plan of benefits assigned to them and work toward developing an understanding of Plans on other work stations within the Department to assist if necessary
- Maintains and updates all records necessary to process retirement benefits
- Receives, computes, researches and evaluates requests for vesting, retirement, death and/or vacation benefits
- Personal interviewing of Plans participants, beneficiaries or other representatives, by telephone, email, and in person
- Coordinates with other departments, Union Representatives, Trustees and other persons as required
- Learns the different codes in the Pension database
- Performs all related duties including, but not limited to, telephone, and personal contact communications, correspondence preparation, suspense cutoff processing and record keeping
- Involved in a variety of routine and semi-routine duties with the ability to multi-task
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications:
- Working knowledge of basic office equipment
- Proven track record of positive interpersonal communications with internal and external clients
- Demonstrated ability to keep calm and positive within all communications
- Proven ability to accurately and timely review and edit documents
- 3 year of general office experience
- Utilize computer and phone systems to be able to effectively perform the essential functions of the position
- Previous experience utilizing Microsoft office software
- High school diploma or G.E.D
Preferred qualifications
- 1 year of office experience in a TPA or Pension Environment
- 2 years of college experience in a related field- an associate’s degree is not required
