Senior Systems Engineer

As we continue on this journey, an important element of this transformation is the creation and building of our Global Technology Services (GTS) function within WPP IT which is responsible for our IT Infrastructure & Operations across the Group. This includes the management and transformation of our Hosting & Distributed environment (Servers, Storage etc.), Connectivity (Network) and Cloud Services (Azure, GCP, AWS). The role holder will report into the GTS Archetype (Hogarth/Specialist Agency/AUNZ) Engineering Lead or one of his reports. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring global technology services are managed and delivered to the business, by partnering closely with our outsourced partners/vendors and wider WPP IT. You will help drive technology delivery introduction and provide the ongoing systems administration & engineering needed for the smooth running and incident resolution in your region, whilst managing the partnerships between operating companies and WPP IT, all whilst maintaining a service mentality. The role will be focused on on-premise infrastructure but also supporting our shift to the cloud strategy. You will also ensure our estate remains refreshed and current as well as provide expertise where needed for WPP Archetype & WPP IT Transformation Programmes/Projects. You will be joining the world's largest marketing services group and have significant autonomy and responsibility in making the role a success.

What you'll be doing:

• Hands on systems administration and engineering to ensure smooth running and incident resolution for Archetype Infrastructure Solutions/Services in your region and its markets
• Help deploy or modify Archetype Infrastructure Solutions/Services as directed by Archetype Technical Delivery Leads & Solution Architects
• Working with our GTS Cloud Hub Team and Managed Cloud Service Provider to help migrate workloads to the cloud and ensure these cloud hosted workloads are robust, secure and well-designed
• Implement any required tooling as required by WPP IT for management, monitoring and securing of systems.
• Implement any required security config changes and/or other patching as required by the Archetype Security Remediation Engineer and WPP IT Cyber Security Team
• Working with the Creative Archetype Engineering & Solution Architecture Leads, assist in delivering technology proposals that align to WPP IT standards and GTS strategy
• Drive relationship with key operating group sponsors in the region
• Change management assessment, planning and communication to ensure minimum impact to business through change process
• In conjunction with their GTS Engineering peers establish Engineering best practice, planning, and architecture documentation
• Works in alignment with other WPP IT Teams to deliver technical projects including GTS Archetype Leads, Strategy & Architecture & WPP IT Archetype CIO Teams
• Provide SME Support to Transformation and other Major WPP IT Programmes/Projects including Mergers/Acquisitions/Divestment and the Migration, Refresh, Decommission of infrastructure.

What you'll need:

• Knowledge of Infrastructure Solutions (Cloud, Hosting, Server & Storage & Connectivity/Networks), their technical delivery, installation and ongoing support of
• Specific exposure to installation and management of the following tools and technologies:
  • o VMWare virtualization
  • o Storage such as DELL and Lenovo
  • o Capacity Management Tooling
  • o Backup schemas and tools, such as Veritas BackupEXEC
  • o Citrix
  • o Microsoft Windows
  • o Linux – desirable
  • · In-depth knowledge of Azure/Microsoft SQL Server with installation, administration experience of:
  • o Azure SQL Databases
  • o Azure Integration Services
  • o Azure Data Factory
  • o MS-SQL Server
  • o MS-SQL Server Integration Services
  • o Microsoft VisualStudio
  • o Analysis Server and Integration Services for Installation
  • o DB Administration
  • o Tuning, 2nd level Support for Daily Operations
  • o Providing best practices and recommendations during planning phase for Projects
• · Experience of working with global teams with excellent people and team skills in large scale, high complexity environments. Able to manage upwards and influence accordingly
• · Independent thinker, strong decision-making capabilities, highly organised, excellent planning skills with strong technology and change background
• · Ability to build trust and creditability, has gravitas, and ability to work with and relate to highly demanding internal clients' base
• · A direct, straightforward style, able to challenge to clarify understanding, with strong analytical skills and able to cut to the core quickly
• · Computer Science background or formal training.
