WQED is a member of the Public Media Workforce Collaborative, a group of four similarly structured public media providers in Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit and Pittsburgh working together to meet the needs of their rapidly evolving communities and to increase their financial sustainability by attracting, developing and retaining a more diverse and highly-skilled workforce and advancing their organizational cultures. With a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion in its work, the Collaborative is providing DEI-focused management training, engaging a cross-section of staff to address organizational policies and practices, and identifying new methods for attracting more diverse applicants to open job positions.

WQED-FM Producer
The WQED-FM Producer is responsible for various production and promotional tasks in order to meet the goals of the radio station.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Digitize, edit, and maintain an archive of tape from the 1980s to the early 2000s in various formats (DAT, reel-to-reel, cassette, CD).
- Create a more consistent structure for the intro/outro of the Voice of the Arts podcast.
- Create engaging and new original compositions and sound design for the Voice of the Arts podcast and on-air promos.
- Produce, edit, and conduct radio/video interviews with members of local cultural organizations,
- Organize long-term projects, such as creating a 50th anniversary CD that includes performances from over 10 different organizations in the Pittsburgh region.
- Maintain professional connections with cultural organizations in the Pittsburgh region.
- Coordinate live on-air performances and interviews with both hosts during the week.
- Learn to create and edit Enco playlists.
- Help with coordination of live or taped performances in our studio.
- Post on FM’s social media platforms as needed.
- Assist with FM programs such as Pittsburgh Symphony Radio; Performance in Pittsburgh; Pittsburgh Opera Preview; etc.
- Provide additional on-air and production support during FM pledge drives.
- Write scripts and edit fundraising spots that describe pledging gifts in FM’s next donation drive.
- Other duties as needed
Required education and skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 2-4 years of radio production experience required.
- Knowledge of programming techniques.
- Excellent communication skills are necessary.
- Knowledge of Classical Music a plus.
