Coordinates and oversees multiple internal funding programs, research events, and communications activities in the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) Office of Research Affairs. These include competitive research grant programs for faculty and medical students, a funding program for medical student travel, and a summer research opportunity for medical students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in science discipline, public health, health administration, business or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in research or project/program management in a related field . Internships, as well as undergraduate and graduate research experience, will count in the yearly requirement.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook. Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, be detail-oriented, be a self-starter, and able to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Continually demonstrate competency and high ethical standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Grant-related experience including project management.
  • Knowledge of the grant submission and reporting processes.
  • Database management and survey development experience.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
50% Program Coordination
  • Manages competitive internal research grant programs for BSOM faculty and medical students, a funding program for medical student travel, and a summer research opportunity for medical students.
  • Coordinates the annual BSOM Research Symposium, including scheduling the location, food, speakers, student posters and presentation materials, creating the program, and coordination of activities with Medical Education.
  • Develops, grows, and maintains new programs, this includes a grant preparation consultation program by members of the BSOM Research Committee and a database of faculty research activities, including grant funding for these activities. Oversees day-to-day coordination for those programs once established.
  • Supports all BSOM departments with grant policies, finding funding, grant submissions, and IRB procedures.
30% Communication & Collaboration
  • Oversees Research Affairs communications, including web page/media management, dissemination of targeted research opportunities, and facilitating interdepartmental research-related communications.
  • Liaison for medical students regarding research opportunities within BSOM.
  • Identification and dissemination of funding opportunities to BSOM faculty, targeted to individual faculty interests.
  • Initiates, plans and manages a monthly Research Affairs seminar for faculty, residents, students, staff, and research-active community members.
  • Maintains professional relationships with internal and external outside collaborators and other personnel in the processes of planning, conducting, monitoring, and evaluating project protocols and status.
15% Data collection and reporting
  • Serves as a contact to research-active faculty with respect to timely completion of goals and required reports, development and implementation of data collection plans and surveys, and collaboration with other departments.
  • Assists faculty and students with REDCap survey creation and editing.
  • Assists students with IRB submissions.
  • In collaboration with Manager, evaluates existing policies, researches and proposes new procedures and tools, and collaborates to identify best practices and approaches.
  • May assist Principal Investigators and faculty/staff with conducting literature searches for grant preparation, citation management, and collection and editing of files needed from co-investigators and sub-contracts.
5% Other
  • Other activities as necessary and assigned.
