This Opportunity
WSP’s team is growing, and we have opportunities for an Engineering Technician Assistant in the Austin/San Antonio area to perform construction testing for transportation projects. WSP is willing to train the right candidate for this position. This is a full-time temporary position and an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience with testing asphaltic materials and aggregates.
Your Impact
- Under general supervision, perform routine field sampling/testing and/or laboratory testing of soil, base, aggregate and asphalt in accordance with established procedures and the standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment.
- Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing and/or inspection reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.
- Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data.
- Interact with client representatives (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites as directed.
- Maintains assigned equipment and related calibrations and storage procedures, follows safety rules and practices and reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 0-2 years of applicable experience
- Must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times, so valid driver's license is required
- Ability to prepare reports and documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly detail-oriented with good organizational and record keeping skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
- Must pass drug test, physical, background check
- Must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Physical Demands
- Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles
- Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
