What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Bridge Inspector position at WSP USA?
This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Bridge Inspector for our Atlanta, GA office. In this hybrid work environment, you will have the opportunity to lead bridge design efforts on projects and to be a key contributor on exciting major bridge and transportation projects in the southeast. The ideal candidate will have broad-based hands-on experience with bridge design.
Your Impact
- Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction
- Perform professional structural engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits
- Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients
- Plan, schedule and perform bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific Bridge Owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges
- Perform engineering calculations on various bridge repair designs, bridge load ratings, and construction inspections
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures to ensure work is completed in a correct manner
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- 7-10 years of experience in bridge design and/or bridge inspection
- NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges Certificate
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
- Physically capable of performing field work including climbing ladders (40ft or less) and in close quarters, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
- The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately
- Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
