We have a career opportunity with our highly-regarded Hazard Mitigation and Emergency Management (HM & EM) program for a planner to support hazard mitigation, resiliency and emergency management services for state, federal, and local governments and other clients.
Your Impact
Working in a team environment, support the development and update Hazard Mitigation Plans that meet Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) standards. This includes:
- Performing risk assessment analyses on hazard data and write significant portions of planning documents
- Evaluating clients’ existing mitigation “capabilities” through on-line research of local plans, regulations, policies and programs, and review of programs and documents
- Support and facilitate planning team and public meetings and perform or oversee data collection and documentation
- Assisting with the identification and description of cost effective, technically feasible, and environmentally sound mitigation actions
- Assist with other emergency management projects and plans in preparedness, response and recovery, including the development and execution of training and exercises
- Assist with task management and project management
- Provide other research and writing tasks as necessary to support a wide range of planning tasks and overall plan development
- Support clients in identifying, pursuing, and developing grant funding opportunities
- Assist with client and project development – track opportunities, identify client needs, assist with proposals and marketing materials where needed
Who You Are
- BS in Planning, Emergency Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field. MS preferred
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated and capable of independent work, but demonstrated ability to work on project teams.
- Strong writing and document skills a must; strong MS Office skills, particularly related to planning documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- 5-10 yrs. experience in planning, emergency management or related field; experience in hazard mitigation planning or floodplain management a plus.
- Experience developing or reviewing DMA 2000 hazard mitigation plans preferred;
- Knowledge of FEMA programs preferred, including working knowledge of federal pre- and post-disaster grant programs including HMA, BRIC, HMGP, FMA and CDBG-DR
- Knowledge of HAZUS/GIS, FEMA Benefit Cost software, EMAP, NFIP and CRS a plus.
- Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: recovery planning, climate change adaptation planning, resiliency planning, emergency operations plans, drought mitigation and response plans, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, energy assurance plans.
- Must pass drug screen and background check

Expected Salary: $67,200 - $133,000 based on nationwide (not specific to Colorado) salary ranges and commensurate with experience
