This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Consultant to work in our Pittsburgh Office located in Wexford, PA, and join a team of geo-professionals delivering geotechnical and geological engineering projects. In this multi-faceted senior consultant role, you will have the opportunity to oversee field work, prepare and review technical field plans and reports, manage large projects and portfolios of projects, build local and regional teams, and participate in client development.
This position includes working both outdoors and in the office with experienced teams on a variety of projects and for a variety of industries, including oil and gas, transportation, and power. This position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions on geological, civil, and geotechnical engineering projects to national key clients.
The ideal candidate will have technical experience in planning and executing small to large field programs for oil and gas companies for a variety of geological applications, with experience on geohazard-related projects. Experience in business development and building client relations are also desired. The position requires effective verbal and written communication skills, team leadership skills, a positive attitude, and strong project management skills. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated consulting experience in in geomorphology, geohazards, and geology with a focus on the Appalachian Basin.
Your Impact
- Act as a Safety Leader, stewarding WSP's Safety program within our Pittsburgh/Wexford operation and our individual client programs you will support. Safely perform work, both in the field and office, and operate vehicles on behalf of the company
- Support and manage large, diverse projects with services that include an emphasis on geohazard identification, field reconnaissance, sub-surface investigations, engineering design, construction support, and hazard monitoring
- Provide technical support for linear infrastructure construction projects to minimize effects of geologic hazards; prepare recommendation reports with collaborative senior participation and review
- Implement use of technology while working in the field with project teams to support geologic and geotechnical investigations
- Handle equipment, including operation, calibration, and maintenance, in accordance with regulatory requirements; and ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance. Train staff in the use of these instruments
- Prepare documents and review those prepared by junior staff, including data evaluations, specifications, work plans, calculations, and cost estimates
- Provide technical direction, oversight, mentoring, and training to junior-level Golder staff in all aspects of project delivery
- Interact with clients, including preparation for and participation in meetings, preparation of progress reports, proposals, and other correspondence, responding to client requests, and maintaining positive relationships
- Support national and regional client programs for the oil and gas sector through active participation with appropriate national and global technical teams
- Contribute to the development and execution of business plans related to the growth of our midstream oil and gas services; provide market and industry insight and facilitate development of marketing strategies
- Participate in identification of regional technical needs and recruiting for these skills in collaboration with senior colleagues
- Local and national travel for project delivery and client development, expected to be less than 25 percent of the time
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, or related field
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in geologic engineering, with at least five of those years of experience occurring in the Appalachian Basin region
- Experience with oil & gas clients and geohazard projects in Appalachian Basin
- Professional Geologist registration in Pennsylvania or ability to receive comity
- Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of programs (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Strong verbal communication, writing, analytical, and organizational skills combined with a positive attitude and an ability to work both independently and within groups, including with technical peers across the company, client contacts, and subcontractors
- Understanding of the importance of health & safety as a top priority and an enthusiasm to participate in WSP’s associated programs and visibly lead by example
- Strong project management skills with experience leading teams on complex or multi-project programs
- Strong client focus with experience in client management and effective project/program delivery skills
- This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering geology or related field
- Relevant skills including an understanding of geohazards, geomorphology and surface processes
