This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geologist for our Redmond, WA office.
Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. In this role, you will provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, subsurface investigations, geologic mapping, and remediation projects. In the field you will be conducting site explorations, geologic logging, and documenting site conditions using a variety of investigative and assessment techniques safely and with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards. In the office you will generate accurate and concise reports and documentation while working collaboratively with a dynamic and growing team.
Your Impact
- Support large, diverse projects with services that include an emphasis on geohazard identification, field reconnaissance, sub-surface investigations, engineering design, construction support, and hazard monitoring.
- Provide technical support for linear infrastructure construction projects to minimize effects of geologic hazards; prepare recommendation reports with collaborative senior participation and review.
- Implement use of technology while working in the field with project teams to support geologic and geotechnical investigations: including satellite navigation systems, mobile mapping software, and/or geophysical equipment.
- Support subsurface site investigations involving drilling, soil classification, rock coring and logging, and well installation.
- Generate, tabulate, manage and evaluate investigation-derived data.
- This position will involve a mix of office and field work. The position requires overnight travel and fieldwork as dictated by project demands.
- Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or closely related discipline.
- 0-1 years or more of related experience.
- Excellent verbal and strong writing and organizational skills combined with leadership ability, a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within groups.
- Ability to independently tabulate, evaluate, and draw conclusions from assessment data generated from field investigations and site assessments.
- Ability to organize and coordinate field investigations, write and implement Health and Safety Plans, and coordinate field efforts with clients, peers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong computer skills including use of Word and Excel to create letters, reports and tables.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Willingness to work on projects across business sectors, performing a variety of tasks, sometimes on short notice.
- Travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Travel methods may include boat, small aircrafts, helicopters, snow machines, 4-wheelers, etc.
- Work may involve construction oversight.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or closely related discipline
- Relevant skills include understanding of geotechnical soil logging, rock core logging, groundwater/surface water sampling, environmental sampling; additionally experience with construction oversight, and other and data evaluation.
- Enthusiasm for engagement with field teams.
- A client-centric mindset and desire to work within a larger team focused on timely, high-quality service delivery.
- 40 Hour OSHA health and safety training.
- MSHA miner training
- Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, pLog, or related software.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $49,400 - $74,100
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
