This Opportunity
WSP has an immediate opportunity for a Junior Survey Crew Chief to work out of our Troy, New York office. Be involved in projects with our Survey/Geospatial team and be part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage field aspects of projects, including keeping accurate and complete field notes and open communication with office personnel
- Under minimal supervision, use survey instruments to perform various types of property surveys on projects of moderate complexity and/or scope, which could include boundary,existing condition, topographic, as-built, subdivision, and profile maps.
- Supervise, train and coordinate field survey team members
- Work closely and collaborate with a dynamic team of experienced professionals, engineers, scientists, project control, and technicians on assigned survey tasks.
- Perform boundary & topographic surveys; engineering design surveys; and construction layout and GPS surveys
- Coordinate with WSP Project Managers to prepare boundary, existing condition, topographic, as-built, subdivision and profile maps using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
- Prepare work packages for field crews to execute project surveys and construction layouts
- Research, request and evaluate property and utility records from a variety government, transportation and utility agencies.
- Perform calculations of deed descriptions, record plans and other provided records
- Out of the area travel, with potential of overnight stays, as projects dictate
- Operate Robotic Total Stations, data collector, GPS (fast static, RTK and VRS), Laser Scanning, auto level and download data into computers each night
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 3 years relevant post education surveying experience
- Experience with Topographic Surveys, Boundary Surveys, & GPS Surveys and construction layout
- Experience with Robotic Total Stations, RTK GPS, Field data collection & linework coding
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including field note taking
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience
- Good math skills
- Ability to live up to 50 pounds, and carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban settings
- Ability to be mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments, in all types of weather
- Ability to work as a one-person crew, as required
- Valid state driver's license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
- This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek (work nights and overtime, as projects dictate)
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements (out of the area travel, with potential of overnight stays, as projects dictate)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology or related areas
- L.S.I.T. registration
- Experience with Massachusetts Department of Transportation survey procedures
- Experience with Leica
- Experience with Auto CAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $44,000 - $79,200
WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
