The Role
The Business Analyst is responsible for bridging the gap between the business and Core Analytics/CRBIT, using data analytics to assess processes, determine requirements, deliver data-driven recommendations and designing reports in support of requisite executives and stakeholders.
Business Analysts engage with business leaders and users to understand how data-driven changes to processes, products, services, and software can improve efficiencies and add value. They must articulate those ideas but also balance them against what’s technologically feasible and financially and functionally reasonable. They will effect such changes for the business by analyzing, designing, and implementing improvements to existing business processes or defining new business processes.
The Business Analyst will work closely with business representatives and IT teams to define initiatives/models to streamline, support and optimize decision-making. The Business Analyst will need a strong understanding of and capability to understand business problems, define creative alternative solutions, make well-supported recommendations, and define insightful business requirements. They should have experience in designing, building, and implementing data and modelling solutions. The Business Analyst must establish a strong level of trust with their constituents, in order to provide such advisory support and feel comfortable providing strong creative solutions that may involve strong change management skills.
The Business Analyst partners with the business and strategically advises on technology, education, and process innovation. They define data requirements to address business problems and attain business goals. They proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, data analytics and reporting. They demonstrate ways that technology/data can enable more informed decisions and actions. The most critical skillsets that the Business Analyst must possess is an ability to analyze business problems, define creative / impactful solutions, define business requirements, strong communication skills, and a good track record of building and implementing solutions. They must be able to understand how to utilize data to inform and support decisions and have a creativity to present data in an easily understandable manner.
Responsibilities:
- Create detailed business analyses, outlining problems, opportunities, and solutions.
- Budget and forecast for specific initiatives.
- Planning and monitoring of assigned initiatives.
- Variance analysis.
- Define business requirements and report on them back to stakeholders.
- Identify and then prioritize technical and functional requirements.
- Elicit requirements and use requirements to influence IT, articulating what the client wants.
- Articulate what models/systems need to accomplish, how they must do it, who owns the,decisions, and how to solicit agreement on what needs to be done before it is initiated.
- Build productive working relationships with key partners to ensure recommendations and priorities are understood by all impacted parties.
- Leverage influencing and negotiation skills to champion optimal solutions. Act as an advocate for change to introduce new technologies and processes to shape the business strategy.
- Translate business problems into strategic and cost-effective technology solution alternatives.
- Leverage broad IT knowledge to research enabling technologies and apply to business problems.
- Partner with business and Core Analytic / IT leaders to align business initiatives, priorities, and schedules based on strategic business and Core Analytic / IT plans.
- Influence the FINEX organization by leveraging knowledge of existing technology solutions and options, and the research that needs to be considered for new options.
- Own and manage the capability landscape for one or more lines of business as the business and the industry evolves.
- Develop deep knowledge of the business area(s) supported and the competitive landscape to provide context for decision-making.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of business functions.
- Combine technical and functional knowledge to produce highly functional solutions to business problems.
- Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

The Requirements
The business analyst position requires both hard skills and soft skills. Business analysts need to know how to pull, analyze and report data trends, and be able to share that information with others and apply it on the business side. Not all business analysts need a background in IT as long as they have a general understanding of how systems, products and tools work. Alternatively, business analysts may have a strong IT background and less experience in business and are interested in shifting away from IT to this hybrid role.
