What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Histology Technician position at WuXi AppTec Inc?
This individual will be responsible for preparing and staining tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations.
Responsibilities:- Complete routine tissue trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, and slide staining.
- Operate and maintain general laboratory equipment.
- Prepare, handle, and dispose of laboratory solutions and reagents.
- Collaborate with experienced Histology Technicians in troubleshooting equipment and process issues.
- Collaborate with the Pathology and Necropsy Teams.
- Assess the day-to-day workflow to meet study on time delivery and expected turnaround times.
- Contribute to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals.
- Maintain study and department records using good documentation practices.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment.
- Able to consistently follow instructions/SOPs and minimize rework.
- May assist with process and equipment qualifications and validations.
- May interact with clients.
- May assist with creating and revise internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Works on routine assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
- Normally receives minimal instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.
- May be required to work Holidays and weekends.
- May be required to work overtime.
- Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- May be required to assist in other departments.
Experience / Education
- High School diploma required
- Associate degree or higher in scientific field, preferred
- Demonstrate consistent productivity and meet deadlines
- Ability to consistently follow instructions/SOPs
- Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
- Need to be able to read, write and understand English
- Proficient in basic Microsoft operation (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Must be able to work in a Lab setting with exposure to animals/biohazards/chemicals, particularly formalin and xylene
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE, routinely gloves, lab coat, and safety glasses or goggles
- Must be able to work in environment with minimal noise levels
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Clarity of vision
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
- Ability to lift 10 lbs. occasionally
- Ability to crouch, bend, twist and reach
- Ability to push/pull 10 lbs. occasionally
- Inside working conditions
- Must not have animal allergies to applicable species in this facility
