Xyzagen (Zi*Za*Gen) is a contract research lab supporting in vivo pharmacokinetics, in vitro ADME, small and large molecule bioanalysis, ophthalmology and neurology pharmacology and nonGLP safety assessments in mice and rats. Xyzagen is also a drug development consultancy providing regulatory advice to clients in the nonclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic disciplines, IND and NDA submissions. Xyzagen has provided strategic advice to early NIH funded biotechs, small and mid-size pharma and venture capital firms. At Xyzagen, we accelerate medicines to patients by partnering with life science innovators. In the past 6 years, we have worked with over 100 different innovators and have helped in the approval of multiple new therapeutics by the FDA.
The Research Technician will:
- Maintain the laboratory and vivarium by
- Ensuring organization of supplies, requestion of supplies and that solvents, solutions are maintained and glassware is clean.
- Being responsible for animal husbandry and maintaining the vivarium and participating in study design, investigation, data collection and tabulation for client studies
- Maintaining cold-storage inventory of materials and samples
- Conduct animal dosing experiments and perform sample and tissue collections
- Contribute to the expansion of models and in vivo pharmacology testing
- Provide general and molecular biology expertise to the laboratory for in vitro studies
- Work with senior scientific staff on ELISA and/or mass spectrometry based bioanalytical methods
- Conduct additional in vitro work as needed for client or internal research projects
- Summarize experimental procedures and results into written documentation
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree or BS in a scientific field or related discipline with 1 year of relevant experience
- At least 1 year of academic or industrial experience with laboratory rodents, including mouse husbandry/colony management
- Experience with technical skills such as intravenous route (tail vein or other routes) of administration and blood collection in rodents
- Have AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT, LATG) or an interest in becoming certified
Qualifications: Key skills/desired experience
- Hands-on experience with laboratory rodents, including mouse and rat husbandry/colony management
- Experience maintaining a vivarium
- Expertise with drug administration to rodents via various routes of administration (including tail vein)
- Understanding of sterile environment preparation, proper use of PPE, and be able to collect tissues and handle biological materials
- In-lab technical experience such as molecular biology assays (ELISA), chemical assays (HPLC, mass spectrometry) and/or necropsy/histology techniques
- Ability to understand and follow the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) guidelines and policies and study-specific protocols
- Moderate technical writing and scientific skills for making accurate assumptions from limited data and to propose the next possible step
- General understanding of basic laboratory techniques
- Demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple projects with a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently but also collaborate as a team player
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to internal and external audiences
- Understanding and experience using computers and software is preferred (e.g. Microsoft Office, Graph Pad Prism)

- The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate.
