What are the responsibilities and job description for the Device Clinic Technician position at Yakima Valley Memorial?

All staff members at Yakima Valley Memorial must be in compliance with our Vaccination Policy, which includes the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine, by their first day of employment.

 

ROLE SUMMARY

Oversees and performs Pacemaker and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device monitoring and/or programming (as indicated by the overseeing provider) for patients with chronic and newly implanted devices. Assists and performs diagnostic procedures. Reports and documents the assessment of the patient’s device. Cleans and prepares patient care areas.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Monitors and adjusts the implanted device to help with the effectiveness and optimization of implanted devices.

  2. Recognizes and participates in clinical emergencies as needed.

  3. Reviews post op restrictions with patients and assesses incision site.

  4. Identifies heart/pacer rhythms and problems.

  5. Uploads and reviews home monitor reports and home monitor alerts. Troubleshoots any issues.

  6. Communicates verbal and/or written instructions for device to Preop/OR for upcoming surgeries.

  7. Performs ECG guided Bi-V optimization clinics.

  8. Maintains calendar for doctor electronic signature.

  9. Communicates with patient Primary Care Physicians as needed for follow up on medication changes. Schedule patients with providers as needed.

  10. Reviews annual pacer reports from pacer companies.

  11. Maintains a neat and orderly work environment to ensure the comfort and safety of the patient.

  12. Manages supplies requests for Device Clinic.

  13. Keep exam rooms stocked with essential supplies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s degree preferred.

Experience: 2 years’ experience in a cardiology or healthcare environment preferred.

Licenses/Certificates/Registration: American Heart Association BLS required.
