JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under direction of the Fisheries Program Manager and Environmental Director, the Fisheries Technician will carry out field work tasks and assist in data management. Fisheries Technician will assist US Forest Service River Ranger during regular foot and float patrols on the Situk River. Position will begin as soon as possible and continue until the end of the fisheries grant on December 31, 2023.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Work directly with US Forest Service on Situk River Rangers program from approximately
April – September
· Consolidate River Ranging data and prepare for reporting
· Assist Fisheries Biologist on other projects such as: environmental DNA sampling, stream restoration and culvert removals, and anadromous water nominations
· Work with other Environmental Staff on department projects: shellfish biomass surveying, shellfish PSP sampling, ocean acidification sampling, water quality sampling, and composting
· Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Biology or a related field OR 2 years of relevant work experience.
· Valid Driver’s license
NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
· Ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision
· Experience working in bear country, on watercraft and aircraft, and driving ATV’s (safety training provided)
· Strong attention to detail and good record-keeping
· Comfortable working in both an office setting and in the field
· Advanced level of computer skills and at least one year experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other programs
· Familiarity with the Native community in Yakutat
· Familiarity with Yakutat fisheries management. Must be able to work flexible hours to meet deadlines and to complete necessary field work
