POSITION SUMMARY


The YMCA of Central Florida is seeking a dynamic individual and proven philanthropic leader as the Vice President of Mission Advancement. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief Mission & Brand Advancement officer and is responsible for creating and leading a comprehensive development plan that delivers the charitable support goals required to sustain and advance the mission of the YMCA of Central Florida. The incumbent will lead a philanthropic team of staff and volunteers that develops and implements all facets of the Association fundraising efforts in collaboration with key stakeholders and partners. This position will also manage a portfolio of high-capacity donor relationships across the spectrum of cultivation, stewardship, and champion the Y’s philanthropic culture to become the charity of choice in Central Florida, achieving support levels in line with best-in-class benchmarks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Identify and manage a portfolio of 75-100 high prospective six/seven figure major & principal gift prospective donors. Build and manage relationships, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from constituents, including community members, individuals and families. 
  2. Prepare and monitor annual development plan and department budget, including strategic plan of funding priorities. Provide reports to Y and board leadership on progress-to-goals. 
  3. Create and implement fundraising programs and moves management to match organizational needs with responsibility to achieve fundraising goals and KPIs. Achieve personal and departmental performance goals for fundraising.
  4. Create and lead association-wide initiatives for capital campaigns, including silent and public stages of such initiatives, along with major & principal gifts, annual giving, grants, appropriations, special events, donor stewardship, and planned giving.
  5. Direct the efforts of the Director of Mission Advancement to ensure the annual support campaign is led successfully and achieve goals.
  6. Maintain research on foundations, create proposal timelines, write grants and maintain all reporting and stewardship as appropriate.
  7. Work with CEO, CMBAO, board members and volunteers to identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, foundations, corporations and other organizational sources of major & principal gift support relevant to top priority needs.
  8. Maintain regular communications with prospects and donors via stewardship and relationship movement program.
  9. Oversee donor database system, supervising appropriate capture and recording of information fields, and creating timely, informative reports.
  10. Monitor lapsed donors and create initiatives to maintain continued relationships.
  11. Create and implement training opportunities for the Board, Y leaders, and Philanthropy teams.
  12. Remain current on fundraising trends and procedures being used in the nonprofit sector, as well as tax laws affecting charitable giving and initiate ways for the Y to capitalize.
  13. Promote and practice the YMCA mission and values, and follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
  14. Evaluate fundraising programs, special events, and campaigns to ensure that the desired return on investment is achieved.
  15. Supervise departmental staff and manage third-party philanthropy agency relationships.
  16. Champion efforts to strengthen the Y’s philanthropic culture and foster greater giving among each audience (team members, board, members, community) by effectively articulating the Y story and case to increase awareness and engagement levels to best-in-class benchmarks.
  17. Maintain association-wide data and tracking systems for deadlines, proposals, reports and materials in order to comply with campaign deadlines and reporting requirements. Manage activities related to all aspects of donor data, build and maintain consistent, effective processes to ensure proper stewardship of gifts and rigorous adherence to administrative procedures for all donations and grants.
  18. Develop, maintain and strengthen key relationships between the YMCA and the board, Y leadership, Family Center and Program leadership and key community stakeholders (public and private corporations, partnerships, media) that enhances the understanding of the Y as an essential community nonprofit and creates new Y advocates.
  19. Build relationships and act as a liaison to funders to identify, evaluate, and capitalize on opportunities for cause area funding. 
  20. Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, be regarded as a peer to other top-level community leaders and professionally represent the organization.
  21. Must adhere to the Donor Bill of Rights and exemplify the highest ethical standards for the practice of fundraising.
  22. Solicit and secure compelling Y testimonial stories across the association that accentuate the need for the Y and demonstrate the Y’s impact and partner with Brand & Cause team to promote the Y’s cause and story.
  23. Promote and effectively represent the mission, cause, community need, and values of the YMCA of Central Florida internally and externally.
  24. All other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  1. Bachelor’s required. Graduate Degree in philanthropy or related field preferred.
  2. Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in philanthropy, nonprofit fundraising, including a proven track record in cultivating significant six/seven figure major gifts.
  3. Proven record of successfully achieving fundraising goals, tracking outcomes and managing budgets with performance-based campaigns and special events. 
  4. Capital, annual giving, major donor, and planned giving experience required.
  5. CFRE certification highly preferred.
  6. Must have experience with government and non-government grants and foundation grant writing, tracking and reporting.
  7. Must have demonstrated experience in effectively leading a development staff team and board volunteers in a nonprofit organization within a complex internal and external environment.
  8. Must have demonstrated experience in community relations and board and donor development.
  9. Knowledge and understanding of community resources and the ability to engage and partner these resources with the YMCA to meet strategic objectives.
  10. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; produces professional reports, communications, grant proposals, correspondence, news releases and collateral fundraising materials.
  11. Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse team of individuals with different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions to foster positive and inclusive outcomes.
  12. Must possess excellent communication skills, planning and follow through actions. 
  13. Microsoft Office proficiency required in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  14. Proficiency with donor software, CRM, and project management software required.
  15. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills required.
  16. Excellent attention to detail, time management, ability to multi-task and possess strong leadership skills. 
  17. Effective advocacy and facilitation skills that motivate people and communities to action. 
  18. Experience working with senior level management and cross-departmental leaders in planning and implementing programs and trainings. 
  19. Must be able to handle varied responsibilities resourcefully and multi-task effectively.
  20. Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity. 
  21. Must have commitment to the mission of the YMCA and uphold its values.

WORKING CONDITIONS  

  1. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
  2. Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have a valid Florida driver license.
  3. May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment. 
  4. Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone, in person and to operate motor vehicles. 
  5. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. 
  6. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. 
  7. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction. 
  8. The employee must be able to perform light duty work. May be required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. in various forms. The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.

  10. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to loud.
