Job Title: Head Camp Counselor
Branch: Brandywine
Location: Coatesville, PA
Pay Class: Full Time/Non-Exempt
Shifts: Monday-Friday 7am-6pm (Hours will vary)
Rate: $13.00-$16.00

About the YMCA of Greater Brandywine: The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW), an association of eight YMCAs serving Chester County, is a non-profit organization committed to nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility through life-changing programs for all.

Position Purpose: As the primary staff person at Brandywine leading a group of campers, the Head Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety, well-being and supervision of the campers under the direction of the Unit Leader. All assigned duties will be performed in a manner reflecting the YMCA of the USA character development traits of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and camp-wide and ensure a risk-free workplace for all
  • Plan and lead activities in accordance with the camp schedule, submitting written plans prior to each week as assigned by Camp Director.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of campers in assigned group. Will coordinate efforts with Camp Unit Leader and/or Camp Director in daily planning and implementation of programs, including lesson plans, activities, projects, specialty activities, special events and operational duties.
  • Maintain positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
  • Organize and maintain camp equipment, supplies, and property.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of day camp schedule as assigned.
  • Maintain camp records including, but not limited to accident and incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance documents, camper emergency contacts, PCG cards, medicine logs, etc.
  • Maintain ACA requirements/ratios and ensure others do the same.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate
  • Prior experience in working with children in a camp environment, preferred
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Ability to effectively use technology for programmatic needs
  • Attend all required pre-camp and camp season trainings and meetings as scheduled
  • Obtain and maintain all new hires certifications and trainings by first day of camp
