General Function:
Under the direction of the District Membership Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Fitness Coach/Member Experience Associate will ensure the safety of all participants and observers in the Fitness Center, while maintaining a clean and fun environment. They will be responsible for the instruction, supervision and safety of all members utilizing the FC & facility, as well as member satisfaction and retention through impeccable member service that promote member engagement.
Know-How:
A YMCA Fitness Coach/Member Experience Associate is required to have a good understanding of physical fitness, strength training, exercise science and fitness equipment, as well as the ability to work well, and effectively communicate with a diverse population in a wide variety of situations. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED must be obtained within 6 months.
Job Segments:
- Demonstrate the proper use of equipment to members
- Assist members with workouts and workout planning
- Supervise the fitness center for general safety of users
- Enforce all branch policies relating to fitness area and equipment
- Maintain proper operation of fitness equipment, and report any repair needs to the Supervisor immediately.
- Be active on the fitness floor, and other areas as required, continually interacting with all members and Will use all tools provided to increase the level of member interaction.
- Keep the fitness center clean, comfortable and pleasant.
- Maintain the member workout log and duties completed files.
- Clean windows, mirrors and machines on a regular basis
- Demonstrate Responsibility, Respect, Caring& Honesty towards members, guests, co-workers, and supervisor at all times.
- Help keep the facility and grounds free of litter and safety hazards
- In an effort to keep employee injuries to a minimum, will encourage all staff to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner. In all instances, proper equipment must be used for the task being performed.
- Ensure that daily care of members is first priority; assist with member service desk operations including scanning membership cards and greeting members.
- Collaborate with all center staff to ensure service excellence and timely follow up to all member questions and/or complaints.
- Provide Cause Driven Tours to any potential members
- Provide and schedule Smart Start appointments to members
- Provide fitness center orientations and demonstrate the proper use of fitness equipment to members.
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisor
SKILLS, ABILITIES & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Friendly disposition and knowledge of excellent customer service practices
- Must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and effective conflict resolution skills
- Must exercise good judgment in decision making
- Must be able to work a variety of hours including weekends and evenings
- Must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to attend all trainings and meetings as required even if scheduled outside normal working or regular scheduled hours.
- Ability to run, walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time
- Occasionally must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Frequently may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking
