General Function:

Under the direction of the District Membership Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Fitness Coach/Member Experience Associate will ensure the safety of all participants and observers in the Fitness Center, while maintaining a clean and fun environment. They will be responsible for the instruction, supervision and safety of all members utilizing the FC & facility, as well as member satisfaction and retention through impeccable member service that promote member engagement.

Know-How:

A YMCA Fitness Coach/Member Experience Associate is required to have a good understanding of physical fitness, strength training, exercise science and fitness equipment, as well as the ability to work well, and effectively communicate with a diverse population in a wide variety of situations. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED must be obtained within 6 months.

Job Segments:

1. Demonstrate the proper use of equipment to members
2. Assist members with workouts and workout planning
3. Supervise the fitness center for general safety of users
4. Enforce all branch policies relating to fitness area and equipment
5. Maintain proper operation of fitness equipment, and report any repair needs to the Supervisor immediately.
6. Be active on the fitness floor, and other areas as required, continually interacting with all members and Will use all tools provided to increase the level of member interaction.
7. Keep the fitness center clean, comfortable and pleasant.
8. Maintain the member workout log and duties completed files.
9. Clean windows, mirrors and machines on a regular basis
10. Demonstrate Responsibility, Respect, Caring& Honesty towards members, guests, co-workers, and supervisor at all times.
11. Help keep the facility and grounds free of litter and safety hazards
12. In an effort to keep employee injuries to a minimum, will encourage all staff to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner. In all instances, proper equipment must be used for the task being performed.
13. Ensure that daily care of members is first priority; assist with member service desk operations including scanning membership cards and greeting members.
14. Collaborate with all center staff to ensure service excellence and timely follow up to all member questions and/or complaints.
15. Provide Cause Driven Tours to any potential members
16. Provide and schedule Smart Start appointments to members
17. Provide fitness center orientations and demonstrate the proper use of fitness equipment to members.
18. Any other duties as assigned by supervisor

SKILLS, ABILITIES & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Friendly disposition and knowledge of excellent customer service practices
• Must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and effective conflict resolution skills
• Must exercise good judgment in decision making
• Must be able to work a variety of hours including weekends and evenings
• Must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to attend all trainings and meetings as required even if scheduled outside normal working or regular scheduled hours.
• Ability to run, walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time
• Occasionally must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Frequently may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking
