What are the responsibilities and job description for the 21st Century Tutor position at YMCA of the Twin Tiers?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the YMCA 21st CCLC Program Director, this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Assists the YMCA 21st CCLC Program Director and Site Supervisor/Coordinator with student learning, growth and advancement for the site location related to the 21st CCLC Program grant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including being able to implement emergency procedures and use logical risk management.
2. Interact positively with the children daily, displaying the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all program activities.
3. Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks ensuring that the program meets the highest quality standards as recommended by the grant guidelines and the YMCA.
4. Perform specific tasks related to the daily operation of the YMCA 21st CCLC Program site such as working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
5. Consults with the Program’s Director, Site Supervisor/Coordinator, principals, and teachers to ensure the program goals are being met.
6. Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice, and facilitate problem-solving with curiosity and critical thinking skills.
7. Assists with the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
8. Monitors the instructional delivery to targeted students.
9. Attends monthly meetings with Site Supervisor/Coordinator.
10. Supervise and maintain the appearance of the site, ensuring a high quality of supplies, equipment and materials. Create an attractive, clean, organized, welcoming room for children. Light maintenance tasks such as sweeping, cleaning tables, and garbage removal are also expected.
11. Work as a team with other child care staff.
12. Attend staff meetings and in-service workshops to meet additional training requirements established by the YMCA and YMCA 21st CCLC Program.
13. Attend parent-child events and other events related to your program, as requested by the YMCA 21st CCLC Director/Site Supervisor.
14. Be professional, alert and eliminate unsafe practices and physical hazards. 15. Complete additional assignments and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor and/or CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideal candidates look to develop self & others, Proven experience as a tutor or in a similar role. Demonstrates patience, flexibility, positivity, consistency, dependability, and cooperation. Able to accept supervision and constructive feedback. Capable of supervising students positively. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; college background is a plus., Understand the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff, and have the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others. Prior to the start of employment, documentation of state clearances must be on-file.
