POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. In coordination with the Aquatic Directors, provides leadership for the development, administration, delivery and supervision of quality aquatic programs and facilities including swim lessons, water fitness, and aquatic special events at both the Central and Davis Family YMCA’s.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT—Assists the Aquatic Directors in delivering aquatic programs including quality, planning, registration, delivery, data collection and improvement; monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in aquatic programs.
  • STAFF ENGAGEMENT—In conjunction with the Aquatic Directors, recruits, hires, on-boards, trains, develops, schedules, engages, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Ensures that aquatic staff maintain certifications and also maintains certification reports. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and volunteers.
  • MEMBER RECRUITMENT & RETENTION—Assist in recruiting and engaging new members. Maintains retention through high quality staff, programs and services, and facility/equipment upkeep and cleanliness.
  • MEMBER SERVICE & ENGAGEMENT—Acts intentionally to connect people with the Y cause through our service and engagement principles; Welcome, Connect, Support, Invite. Leads staff and volunteers in developing a culture of service and engagement.
  • FACILITY MANAGEMENT— Coordinates use of facilities for program activities; ensures a safe, clean, and productive environment. Oversees the cleanliness of the aquatic areas and equipment. Records and reports all needed maintenance or repairs; repairs as directed.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT—Assists with monitoring daily aquatic program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and procedures, including Child Abuse Prevention, emergencies, medical, facility use, and disciplinary situations; completes and follows up on Incident Reports.
  • FISCAL MANAGEMENT—Manages the Y’s resources responsibly and sustains the Y’s nonprofit business model to ensure revenue/expense and program services goals are achieved.
  • MISSION & CAUSE ADVANCEMENT—Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Secures sponsorships for Aquatic special events.
  • MARKETING –Works with Aquatic Directors and Marketing Team for marketing and distribution of YMCA branded program information and YMCA collateral; follows all marketing procedures and policies.
  • RELATIONSHIP BUILDING—Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all inquiries, emails, messages and complaints in timely manner. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Listen First, CPR, O2 Administration, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Living Our Cause, and Anti-Harassment for Supervisors.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications and maintenance of outside certification(s). Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Water Fitness Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, Y Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer, and YMCA of Youngstown Leadership Development Program within six -twelve months of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
