What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Director position at YMCA?
The Aquatics Director position is an integral part of the success of the Monroe County YMCA and is responsible for all facets of the aquatics operation for both branches. The position will include the administration of the department; program enhancement and development; supervising, scheduling, and evaluating the aquatics staff; and building positive relationships with members, parent and class participants. The Aquatics Program Leadership Team consists of the Aquatics Director, Northwest Aquatics Coordinator, Southeast Aquatics Coordinator, and the part-time swim team coaches.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 2 years related aquatics experience preferred.
- CPR/AED, First Aid certifications must be maintained during employment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A demonstrated record of possessing a high degree of organizational and supervisory skills required.
- Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn other software programs.
- Securing the Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification is required within the first year of employment.
Related to the Aquatic Staff
- Lead the recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, and annual review process for all aquatic staff personnel.
- Develop and oversee lifeguard training programs with the assistance of the coordinators.
- Approve time cards for staff and complete related payroll duties.
- Develop the aquatic staff work schedule and ensure shifts are covered.
- Cover open life guard shifts and/or swim instructors within the association, when required.
- Supervise and coordinate skill checks.
- Ensure all staff certifications are up to date and reported to Human Resources Department.
- Provide guidance and direction to the Tiger Shark Swim Coach.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled meetings with the Aquatics Leadership Team.
Related to Administrative Functions
- Responsible for the development and management of the annual budget.
- Attend the Monroe County YMCA weekly Director meetings.
- Work directly with the Marketing Department in developing program promotional materials for swim lessons, Tiger Sharks Swim Team, annual Safety Around Water swim events, and any other programs.
Related to Group and Private Swim Instructors
- Provide guidance and direction to the Coordinators in managing the swim lesson programs.
- Develop and oversee the scheduling and monitoring of swim lessons and the coordination and tracking of all sessions.
- Perform progress checks for swim instructors.
- Cover swim instructor shifts when necessary.
Pool Maintenance/Safety
- Work with the Facility Property Director in overseeing protocols to meet pool maintenance. standards based on best practices.
- Ensure all risk management procedures are followed.
- Review safety checklist weekly oversee the completion of these functions.
General
- Maintain the pool schedule which includes, swim lessons, recreational swimming, and group aquatic classes.
- Assist with emergencies and serve as lead responder to emergencies.
- To serve as an Ambassador of the Y in building relationships with member and guests.
- Responsible for serving members through personal interaction that will foster relationships with the members which includes email correspondence or fact to face interaction.
- Models and teaches staff Y values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty in all staff interactions and training sessions.
- Complete other duties as requested by COO.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of the position.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
- Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
