What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Director position at YMCA?
The Aquatics Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, administration, fiscal management, and growth of the Aquatics Department. This entails the delivery of mission-oriented programs of the highest quality and operation of programs in accordance of all procedures and standards established by the Board of Directors. The Aquatics facility consists of three pools: lap pool, family pool with water slide and warm water therapy pool.
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field or 5 years’ experience in aquatics management.
2. Must have previous experience with the coordination, administration, or development of Aquatics programs.
3. Must hold current American Red Cross lifeguard certification, CPR & First Aid Certification and AED Certification or obtain within 60 days of employment.
4. Preferred Lifeguard Instructor Certification and previous experience in teaching lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and AED classes.
5. Must be able to work with various agencies and groups to provide programs to the community at large.
6. Experience in developing strong alliances and collaborations.
7. Must have excellent communication skills including written and public speaking skills. Possess management skills to lead effectively and budgeting skills to develop and manage a balanced budget.
GENERAL PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
1. Ensures character development activities and YMCA values are an integral part of all programs being offered.
2. Implement and train aquatics team on pool rules and procedures.
3. Will develop collaborations or partnerships with other community agencies that assist the YMCA in the fulfillment of our mission.
4. Responsible for communicating program events to supervisor, aquatics staff, member service staff, and other appropriate parties.
5. Keeps records and statistical data on program participation.
6. Conduct ongoing assessment of programs being offered through member and participant comments and evaluations.
7. Responsible for attending various management meetings and participating fully in exchange of information.
8. Responsible for all other duties deemed necessary for a job well done.
AQUATIC PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
1. Responsible for planning and carrying out training of lifeguards and swim instructors.
2. Development of yearly plan to provide in-service training and regular staff meetings.
3. Responsible for properly staffing pools to ensure member and participant safety.
4. Responsible for swim instructor assignments and regular follow-up with instructors during each session.
5. Coordination of all aquatic programs to fit allotted pool time.
6. Must be able to act as a liaison to parents and participants involved in aquatic programs.
7. Assist in coordinating aquatic birthday parties and rentals.
8. Planning, coordination, and promotion of Community Swim Program.
9. Responsible for storage and upkeep of all program equipment.
10. Responsible for coordinating with Swim Team coach pool use time.
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
1. Responsible for following established procedures in hiring staff including reference and/or criminal background checks.
2. Responsible for insuring that all new employees attend departmental orientations prior to their start of any position under your supervision.
3. Responsible for development and implementation of a training plan for all staff to ensure all goals and standards are met and programs are of the highest quality.
4. Ensures staff has resources to do an accurate and thorough job.
5. Responsible for following disciplinary procedures in terminating an unproductive employee.
6. Responsible for assuring that all legal requirements are met, including updating certification.
7. Responsible for the evaluation of staff performance and job counseling when situations deem appropriate.
8. Assist with coordination and implementation of CPR and Lifeguard classes for YMCA staff and community members.
VOLUNTEER RELATIONS
1. Responsible for recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers in program areas.
2. Responsible for properly training all volunteers to perform duties to the highest standard.
3. Responsible for committee or taskforce assignments as delegated from supervisor or CEO.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT
1. Assist in keeping program areas clean and clear of clutter.
2. Where applicable, responsible for upkeep and maintenance or reporting needed maintenance to appropriate staff.
FISCAL MANAGEMENT
1. Responsible for developing an annual budget for the Aquatic Department.
2. Responsible for management of budget on a month-to-month basis, meeting all revenue and expense projections.
FUNDRAISING
1. Responsible for serving as a staff liaison to the annual campaign. As a result, campaign is successful in meeting its goal.
2. Responsible for any additional fundraising duties assigned.
Program/Project Management, Innovation, Developing Self and Others, Collaboration, Change Leadership, Inclusion
Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. LGI certification recommended. All other certifications as deemed through the onboarding process of a new employee.
Salary : $48,000 - $53,000
