POSITION SUMMARY
Coordinates and supervises the aquatic department and aquatic programs under the direction of the Aquatics Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with Aquatics Director to ensure the pool and its programs are operating at optimal safety and quality.
- Serves as a contact for all aquatics staff in the Aquatics Director’s absence.
- Performs weekly regular direct service such as lifeguarding, swim instruction, and safety class instruction.
- Assist in scheduling staff to ensure safety and quality program delivery.
- Assists in supervising aquatic staff as well as providing evaluation input.
- Addresses member concerns in a timely manner and passes information and concerns to the Aquatics Director and/or appropriate program director.
- Assist in training new staff as well as providing ongoing training in accordance with training designs.
- Acts as a primary response in case of injury, accident, or illness and be knowledgeable of emergency procedures.
- Provides backup to lifeguards as needed in emergency.
- Report injuries and complete required forms.
- Immediately notifies a supervisor of broken equipment or unsafe aspects of the pool.
- Assists in conducting all staff meetings and in-service trainings as scheduled.
- Provides communication and training for membership staff regarding class registrations and programs.
- Ensures adherence to state and county standards.
- Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.
- Cooperates and assists in the administration of special events and activities; supports and volunteers to be a part of the Annual Campaign.
- Maintains cleanliness in the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your Supervisor
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your Supervisor.
- Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum and Preferred Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Associate’s Degree Or equivalent of 1 – 3 years of experience and some supervisory experience.
- First Aid, CPR, AED, and Lifeguard certification.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training preferred (Training provided if needed)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or YUSA Yv6 Swim Instructor preferred (Training provided if needed)
- Ability to lead motivate and develop aquatic staff.
- Ability to successfully pass YMCA swim test in order to meet safety standards.
- Mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers.
- Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person.
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR & First Aid effectively.
- Must obtain Trainer level certification in Lifeguarding and Swim Instruction
